After telling Bret that he was visiting Cho and requesting that he wish him luck -- because as brilliant as Cho was, his luck really was that bad -- Jemaine began trekking the road to her apartment. He realised belatedly that he probably shouldn't have been as surprised as he was by Bret's onslaught of questions and what he assumed was jealousy over his sojourning with Cho but after assuring him that it was just innocent Magician testing, Bret relented.
Man, he even exaggerated in his own mind.
Jemaine came to rest at the door to Cho's apartment and knocked, a little dispirited but relieved to be finally figuring out what was happening.
Cho's head snapped up and she let out a puff of air. "Come in," she said, though she did not relinquish her perch atop the box and chair and table. She just had to be absolutely sure that this was right before she let Jemaine step into it, because if she got it wrong, well... she thought of the spread of pages at the beginning of the book. The symbol for a locating spell next to the symbol for liquification (presumably for demolition purposes) and the difference between them. One extra line, and a hook on the end of a crescent shape.
Jemaine opened the door and nudged it shut with his elbow on the way in.
And then he stared.
Not that he known what to expect, really, but whatever he had it certainly wasn't this. He had speculated maybe needles and urine tests, image studies, a biopsy, not whatever was happening in here. Jemaine raised his chin to blink carefully up at Cho who was currently balanced on top of -- well, a lot of things, and awkwardly wrung his hands together.
"Um, is that -- is that safe?" He asked, quickly glancing around the room.
"Probably not," Cho answered honestly just as the chair teetered a little and she adjusted her balance. "But I don't think I'll fall, and I needed a high vantage point. Come here?" She motioned to the table, and once again compared the chalk drawing on the ground to the paper in her hand. "Does that look like this, do you think?"
Jemaine made his way to the table and looked from the paper to the floor, still clearly confused and uncomfortable. "Yeah," he said uncertainly. "Yeah, they look pretty much the same."
This was looking like a sacrifice or something. "You're not going to make me cut myself are you?"

Plus, Cho was nice.
