Gob was fuming and grossed out and embarrassed. He'd known demon chicks were freaky, but when one of them invited him home to meet her 'two friends,' how the hell was he supposed to react when he found out they were two DUDES?
The door slammed behind him as he escaped from the apartment building onto the walkway, and he turned to back away from it.
"I have a sense of propriety!" he shouted up toward the window. Laughter was the only answer he got.
Bonnie was just about to turn around a corner when she heard the sound of a door slamming shut, and it was the most wonderful sound she'd ever heard. That sound meant someone was awake! She hoped it wasn't another one of those strange talking animal thingies. It was getting so difficult to tell the difference between who she should eat and who she should befriend.
Just as she turned the corner and caught sight of the man (thankfully, he didn't seem to be furry), he gave a shout. What an excellent opportunity, she thought, to start a conversation! She bounded up to him, red curls flouncing behind her. "Hello!" she chirped up at the man. "I have a sense of propriety too!"
Gob jumped a little at the voice, but his startled state didn't last long once he noticed the non-threatening appearance of his greeter.
"Yeah? Well, don't go up there, then. Ugh," he shuddered. "Sick." At least he'd managed to turn her bedside table into an ice sculpture of a swan. Not that he'd been trying to, but it was the principle of the thing. Or something.
He turned to (sort of) surreptitiously study her. Kinda cute. Couldn't see her ears through all that hair, though, and he was kind of done with demons for the moment. "You a demon?"
Was she a demon? It took her a few moments to figure out how to respond. He was probably just talking about the race of demons in Rowan, but it was a weird question to ask someone out of the blue and maybe this guy was a vampire hunter or something. She examined him curiously. He didn't look threatening, but neither had Buffy Summers.
"No," she finally answered, deciding it was the best reply no matter what his question had meant. "I'm a Bonnie."
She smiled brightly up at him, leaning on her tiptoes to peer at his face. "What's up there?" she asked, pointing to the window that Gob had called into. She tried to guess what could have offended his sense of propriety. "Drag queens? An opium den? Rod Stewart?"
Not that it was likely he would get the joke. No one in Rowan got her cultural references.
Lexington wasn't really having an eventful night. But then, he rarely did here. For the most part, he simply explored the city each night trying to learn a little more about the people of Jhelbor...especially now that they were dividing into even more sections. It was pretty interesting in his opinion.
It was when activity in the city tapered off that he got bored. There wasn't anything to defend here and he didn't have any constant companions. It also seemed unlikely that anyone from his clan would be pulled through the gate. So, he'd been very slowly working on meeting people...one-on-one most of the time. It was a little easier that way.
So when he saw a young woman walking in his direction from the wall he was attached to, he watched her for a long moment before dropping down and landing a few feet behind her. "Hello," he called, raising a hand in greeting. Hopefully she wouldn't be too startled.
At the sound of someone landing behind her, Bonnie's face immediately began to change for an attack. Instinctively, she moved to spin around and face her attacker, but halfway through, she paused, turned sideways. Her hand lifted to her face and as she knew she would, she felt her extended fangs. No. She didn't want people to know this secret yet.
It only took a second for her face to return to normal, and then she turned to face Lexington head on.
And she blinked at him.
"Well hi," she responded, furrowing her forehead. "What are you?"
Somehow Lex got the feelin that something bad had nearly happened...but then, he was more of a pessimist when it came to trusting people nowadays. It might've just been his imagination.
"Sorry if I startled you," he said, straightenin up a little and adjusting his cloak. He was well aware that he was nowhere near the picture of intimidatin that the rest of his clan was...but it still paid to be pleasant anyway. "My name's Lexington, I'm a gatgoyle."
Bonnie looked at Lex, blinking her eyes rapidly as she examined the creature in front of her. Straight face, she told herself. This wasn't the time to stop and stare.
"I'm Bonnie," she replied uncertainly. "And I'm a human." Well, sort of.

That and a Slap Chop, she thought.

Close enough, really.
