let's get the hell out of bubbleville

Wednesday, while the armies of Rowan approach Jhelbor, Elimyr is at the bottom of the lake with Ianto's head in her lap. He doesn't speak his stories any more, and she misses his voice, but that's all right. The mermaids taught her patience, and it's taking him longer to put the pieces back together than it took her. She thinks maybe she ( Read more... )

Cho closed her journal and looked around the bubble. "Well... we're too deep to cut our way out from down here. We're going to have to get to the surface first. Any ideas?" She couldn't see any obvious reason that the bubble was staying down. Physically it should be floating up already, so it had to be something related to the Magic. If Mikney thought it wasn't dangerous to work against Elimyr's magic...

Cho got up and started walking around the bubble, around the very edge where it met the bottom of the lake. "Guys... empty your pockets." She was already going through hers.

Bret didn't know where this was going but he did as he was told. He pulled out empty ink bottles and scraps of food he'd been saving just in case. He'd already had his journal out, though he hadn't known how to respond to Mikney's request. What he wanted sounded impossible at this point. But if Cho had an idea, they might at least have a chance of getting out.

"What are we going to do?"

Sonic had no pockets to empty. He was also feeling a little annoyed at Mikney. Cut through the bubble -- sure. Like they wouldn't have thought of that before.

But if Cho had an idea to get them out, that gave him a bit of hope.

"What's the plan?"

"At the moment? It's really more of a vague notion." Cho looked at Ianto, still lost inside his head and sitting as far away from the rest of them as he could get. Had he even slept since Elimyr had forced him to save them all? She couldn't tell, but they weren't going to have a better chance to repay him than right now. They had their distraction in spades.

Cho sat in the center of the bubble and picked up her pen. "Bring me everything we have that we aren't wearing - plates, shells, blankets, rocks. Anything that's in here with us." The worst that could happen was she'd look stupid, and it wasn't like she didn't already.

Cho picked up a bone comb and drew a symbol on it in a surprisingly steady hand. It flared for a moment when it activated, and when Cho let go, it floated to the top of the bubble. The Magic was trying to fall up. She just had to make a lot more of it fall hard enough. It was worth a shot.

Bret caught on, remembering Hood and the floating rock, which seemed so long ago now. He started helping to collect all the random objects people were pulling out and setting them in a pile near Cho, wondering if it would be enough. Was weight important? It seemed like reverse gravity or something, so maybe...He went and retrieved his lute, adding it to the pile as well. He ignored the pang of worry at what might happen to it (because, really, what did that matter?) and watched nervously. Pleaseworkpleaseworkpleasework.
