Wednesday afternoon, a chill rolls in over the Rowan lake, though it's difficult to tell anywhere but on the surface. The waters grow dark and choppy, and even the sun hides behind the dingy grey clouds that have swept in to dampen Jhelbor ( Read more... )

Jemaine flinched and jerked back against Bret, startled by his hand in his shirt and oh God it could have been her. But it wasn't, she was outside, she had just trapped Sonic and she was rising and ohgodohgodohgodohgod. He fell back next to Bret, his palms sweating and his breath laboured and he could almost feel her anger.

Tails was afraid, almost more than he had ever been in his fairly short life. Sonic was trapped seperate from them and she was angry and coming for them. But why was she angry in the first place. He had never even spoken to her so he could get no sense of why. But if anyone was going to get through this someone needed to know. Would she talk to any of them?

He walked to one of the bubble walls, large blue eyes string out into the water as he tried to stay calm and think this through.

Suddenly there are two unblinking eyes staring right into Tails' with an eerie calm. Elimyr's face presses into the bubble, and it gives way to her touch, splitting open and letting her inside, along with a generous wave of the icy lake water. She repairs the tear after her, because if they die now they can't hurt like they're supposed to, hot and loud and twisty squeezing black. But she still holds the water close around her like a shield, like a weapon, because she's hurting just as badly, and that is what makes her dangerous.

For a tense minute she says nothing at all, just stares at Brook. Then her eyes shift to Ianto, and though she's speaking to everyone, it's meant for him. "You don't love me. You don't want to be my friend. You'd rather have her." She hasn't reached into anyone else's mind to pull the answers so she can see them for herself. She doesn't need to. It's obvious. There is pain in her chest, and it's sharp and cutting and too slippery slimy quick to get hold of and bash against a rock until it stops moving.

There's no point in denying it, so Ianto doesn't. Reasoning with her is equally pointless, but he has to try something, and as long as he's pleading then the water soaking their feet remains colourless. "She's new, and you haven't stopped by in so long. Just because we like her doesn't mean we don't like you. It's only polite to make her feel welcome in her new home." It won't work. Brook isn't like the others. Brook wasn't given to him as a pet. She's a test, and he has failed, and now both of them are going to pay for it. "Don't-- please-- We can tell you stories, all of us, for as long as you like. We can all be friends together." She'll die. She'll die, and he'll have to watch.

No no no no no no no. Definitely a bad idea. Sonic's hands squeeze into fists, struggling against the restraints around him, but it's no use. His quills are on edge but they're not breaking it, this doesn't make sense, he's sliced through steel before, he should be able to handle a damn bubble.

She's going to hurt them. She's going to hurt them and he can't help.

Sonic grimaces and stares ahead, and pushes against his prison with all his strength.
