Austen marathon

I had three most boring days while the state took care of my dear husband in form of a military refresher course in the woods of Raasi. So to cheer up my loneliness I watched all my Austen films for the umpteenth time. And what a joy! Those films are already ten years old and they still are as fresh as new.

I started with Sense and Sensibility. ( Read more... )

Oh! And I was not there! We could have watched those together. Remember when we fell in love with Mr Darcy together, when P&P came on TV? We have to arrange that regency feast someday...

I am definitely an Emily girl, but I am not much of a LMM fan :)

L.M. Montgomery is my definite sad-and-sobby-lying-in-bed-sick reading :) It works everytime. Must be some kind of reverting to childhood thingy.

I must say I agree with almost everything you write about Austen and the film adaptations, Emma in particular. Great minds do think alike, right? :) But I confess I liked the movie adaptation of Persuasion quite a lot, though the book definitely wasn't such a riveting read as P&P or Emma.

I do like Brontë and Anna, but I am definitely an Austen and Emily girl. I especially enjoyed the tv-series "Emily of New Moon", although many LMM fans said they didn't like that intepretation. But it was excatly like I had always imagined Emily to be.

It has been on Finnish telly twice. First it was shown about 4-6 years ago on Sunday afternoons if my memory serves me correctly. Then there was a re-run about a year later in the morning broadcast. I even had some episode on VHS, but they were such a bad quality, that I had to throw them away some time ago.

I hope it'll be available on DVD one day. I'll definitely buy it.

I don't know about bronte or austen, probably have not read bronte (*gasp* /hides), and I liked both Anne and Emily. I think Emily was my favorite back then, but cant be sure. I haven't read Anne books since I was teenager, should do again soon. One of my favorites was the one with garden, I dont remember its name. Salainen Puutarha?

The wrath of regency freaks will be over you!

In fact, Emily is a lot more like myself, unlike Anne, who I find actually quite annoying at times. But the overall story is better and the characters more fun and interesting in Anne stories, I think.

Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett? I think I have it in my bookshelf and there's a movie of it too.
