I'm glad you survived, though! And I totally get you on the tutoring thing. For the very first time ever I tutored a kid for philosophy, and I THINK she understood better because of what I told her (of course, she hadn't done one of the readings that her paper was on, so I kinda guesstimated what it might possibly be about, but...I mean besides that... :-b).

The tutoring thing can be pretty cool when you realise you might have taught someone something that'll help them. (Though it can also suck when you know they're not understanding you and you have no idea how to make them understand).
