that is obnoxious.

Observe:

Jade: *clicks on friends list*
Jade: WUT.
Duckie: What?
Jade: My friend met Philip Pullman.
Duckie: WUT.
Jade: This is also the same friend that got me a signed copy of Artemis Fowl: t3h Graphic Novel.
Duckie: THAT IS ABSURD.
Jade: This is because she lives in London, where famous people come ALL THE TIME. Not faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaair...

anyway.

cool! I went to see the movie last night and thought it was pretty good--choppy in the beginning, with a lot of dancing around the religious stuff that I thought was totally dumb, but Nicole Kidman (especially in her portrayal of Mrs. Coulter's relationship with her daemon--which leads me into all sorts of questions about how static the grown-ups in Lyra's world are, if their daemons can never change) was amazing. Daniel Craig has an action sequence that was apparently entirely gratuitous, rather like all those extra scenes with Liv Tyler in the LOTR movies, but hey, Daniel Craig.

anyway, any other interesting tidbits you picked up?

*apologises for being obnoxious but is not really sorry and plans to be plenty more obnoxious in the future* :)

I didn't actually meet him in London. This was on Thursday afternoon, (I was away since Tuesday), so it was totally by chance, and far from home. Hence the being late.

The movie doesn't sound too bad, I'll have to go and see it.

And no other tidbits that I can remember, I'm afraid. I really did only catch the end.

:-b

uh-huh. Sure. Sure. Whatever.

it is v. shiny. And Daniel Craig.

oh well. That is pretty neat too. (I like the progression from 4 to 5 especially. Heeheehee. Also, he's probably mostly right about that. We do have an unusually large concentration of stupid people who don't read books and protest them anywayz over here. >.<)

0:)

!? No, I'm being serious. Totally by chance. I walked out of a building, my friend ran up to me and went 'OMG', (the letters, not the words), 'Philip Pullman is signing books in xxxxxxx and it'll all be over in ten minutes'. And I blinked a bit and then we had a mad dash to the place. And I rang my mum up and squeed at her about it afterwards.

I read that wrong at first and thought that you were saying that Daniel Craig was v. shiny. :D But yes, I really am going to have to see the movie now.

I'm not sure that he was entirely right, I think he's dismissing the more moderate, reasonable criticism he's receiving, (from the UK as much as anywhere else), and lumping it in with the radical stuff.

Very awesome, Ro! Aren't you the stealthy one, trailing 10 yr olds to get to the front.

I think I'm more of the rude, pushy one, but stealthy works for me. :) (And am I detecting a hint of sarcasm, Checkers? :D)

I think you're confusing sarcasm with jealousy =)

Re number 4: there's a post at Read Roger today about how the whole "Catholics are banning Pullman's books everywhere" thing has been completely exaggerated.

and re number 6: I think it's "The Book of Dust."

I went and checked it out and laughed. I also scrolled down and read the CNS review of the movie, which was well and thoughtfully done. :-)

So cool! Good work on the sneaking to the front, I say it's every man for himself at book events :)

I just saw Golden Compass yesterday! (I wonder if it annoyed him to have his book title changed in one country and then have that title used for the movie?)

I don't watch Neighbours but can see that Perth=exile is a good plot device, it's a nice place but sooo far away.

It seems to me almost like this is one of the rare cases where the new title makes more sense than the old. 'cause the other books in the series are named after the important instruments in them, and it's not so much the Northern Lights that are important as is the Dust that comes from it. but that's just me thinking too hard, as usual. XD

That seems like a very sensible theory. But I irrationally like original forms of things :)
