Who: usedrage and biteisbigger Where: Goldenrod City Pokemon Center When: March 19th, Evening Summary: Ken and Kisa finally meet up--Ken has a gift for her ;A; Rating: A for Adorable ; E for Everyone Log: ( Maybe you're seeing things the wrong way. )
It felt... strange, to be out of bed after spending the past few days getting over her fever, but compared to a two-week hospitalization, certainly nothing to complain about. Her Pokémon (or most of them) had been remarkably patient about training, so the least Kisa could do was take them out to stretch their legs. Mogeta had just returned to her arms when ping--
Blinking in confusion - was it Artemis? - she checked the gear. And then stared down at it. The message itself was simple, but the sender--
No less than two minutes later, the doors parted to admit entrance to a little girl, pink-cheeked from running and with a Pichu clinging to her shoulder. She scanned the lobby anxiously, doing a tentative sidestep to avoid getting run into by other trainers, and then her eyes fell on the boy sitting there.
To say that Kisa lit up was an extreme understatement. There was a moment of awkward shyness-- she didn't know if he'd like her in person, but her overall happiness overshadowed anything else.
"I-it does?" For an instant, Kisa tilted her head again, as if that would afford a glimpse-- before realizing that definitely wasn't going to work. She had to settle for a deeper blush and yet another flustered reaction.
"U-um-- thank you...! I'll take very good care of it, and it... I... I do really like it..."
"I'm sorry--!" Kisa blurted out, maybe a little more hastily than she would have liked (and startling Mo in the process). "I... it's just this is the first year... it's..."
She was struggling, trying to figure out how to word it best and finding herself running into a wall, no matter how much she tried to vocalize how she truly felt. Did she really need to explain to Ken that this was the first time she'd gotten White Day presents from people not from the Sohmas? Until Wataru - and Ken and Miles and Romano - she'd been unable to make friends with boys close to her age. It would have been too much of a risk.
And until she could explain that, of course he wouldn't understand how much something he might have deemed as simple meant so much to her.
"It's the first year you've gotten anything for White Day?" Well, it was the first year he'd gotten anything for Valentine's Day. Granted, his distance from his classmates was chosen, not forced, but he still grinned. "I'm glad I was able to give you something for it, then."
It wasn't that big a deal to get or not get something on these holidays to Ken. Normally, he'd dismissed it as something silly, and he would never really understand why it meant so much to Kisa. But things here were a little different from back home, and he was no longer the type to under-appreciate any kind of friendship. And even if it didn't mean as much to him to get something, making someone else happy was starting to mean a lot more.
Close enough, and Kisa nodded sheepishly. Conveying things had become so much harder than it had been when she'd been younger, but that was to be expected. She hadn't been as much of a talker as Momiji or Ayame, anyway. But somehow... she'd made friends here. Important friends who'd liked her despite her initial bout of silence, her awkward stammers, the softness of her voice... it was heartening.
And finally, still at a loss as to what to say to Ken, Kisa settled for (slowly and carefully) reaching out to loosely grasp both of his hands in hers. She squeezed gently and, in her usual quiet voice, gave him a heartfelt "Thank you."
Well, it takes all kinds, doesn't it? He didn't know her when she was silent, but he knew Kisa now and he liked her now. That was all that mattered, right?
When she took his hands, he blushed, just a little bit. "There isn't anything wrong with affection, now and then," he'd been told before, but he still... wasn't quite used to it. He smiles, though, a little bit. "You're welcome, Kisa-chan."
... Oops. Kisa was accustomed to holding hands with Hiro, and she'd moved before she'd thought it through. It probably wasn't normal to be doing this with someone she'd just "met", and she guiltily released his hands with a tiny noise of embarrassment.
"U-um... how are your Pokémon? They're... being looked at now, right...?"
"I'm pretty sure they're fine. I just have to make sure Nyx didn't hurt herself when she ran into a tree..." He rubs the back of his neck, looking away, embarrassed for his Pokemon's sake. "I'll probably be here a little while longer."
Kisa's face said all too clearly what the girl herself did not. ... Namely, that running into a tree sounded pretty painful. And as someone who'd gone through that experience, she knew that it definitely hurt. She cast a worried glance at the center's counter, already nervously twisting her fingers in her skirt.
"You don't have anything better to do?" The last thing he had expected was company. It wasn't an unpleasant surprise, but he didn't want to keep her any longer if she wanted to be somewhere else. "I mean, you can, but I'm sure she'll be fine. She's really strong." Strong enough to hold a midget by his ankles anyway.
Ken had always over-estimated Bulbasaurs' strength--he'd never had a good run in with one.
Kisa's first and only experience with a Bulbasaur had been the one Artemis had caught. She remembered him being strong, but he'd still been caught. She couldn't help but feel concerned about Ken's.
For now, she just shook her head in response to his question. "I... want to stay with you. Even if she's fine... I, um... wanted to... spend more time with you?"
That was how you got to know people better, after all, but Kisa's nerves had failed her halfway through that sentence, so her last words were said in a voice just barely above a squeaked-out whisper.

She most likely was going to wear it for awhile.
