[Battler wasn't exactly fond of rainy afternoons, and with good reason. But for now, he didn't seem to mind at all. He had left Maria and her new pokémon friends in their dry and warm room and told her he needed something and would be back later
( ... )
Three questions... [Funny, this is usually a game Kaito is on the other side of. But he'll bite]
All right. I'm in. [He lapses into a thoughtful silence, trying to come up with a good first question... and he supposes there is no better place to start than with the conversation that left him confused]
Why did you ask me what I would think if you told me you were planning a murder?

Because that's what this game is about. I will use magic, kill them, and then watch amused how those humans break their heads wondering "how is this possible?".
[He did warn him the truth would be hidden in his answers... he just needs to play as fair as the rules they agreed upon.]
[Any sane person would probably think Battler was crazy at this point. Kaito is just trying to figure out what he's missing. There's more to this, I know there is, but he's not being upfront and I need to know why.]
... fine.
[He pauses to lapse into another thoughtful silence as he tries to think of another good question. Something that actually gets him somewhere]
It's a witches game. Fantasy against mystery. Witches against humans. There are a lot of old witches, so I don't know who started it. The Rokkenjima game was started by the Golden Witch, Beatrice.
[Opens his eyes and looks at Kaito, his face not showing any emotion. He remembered his old man always having the same smug smile, whether his plans were going good or bad. Kyrie-san was also an expert.]

[Closes his eyes and faces up, letting the water fall on his face.]
Say, Kaito-san. Let's play a game. You can ask 3 questions... I promise I'll answer the truth, even if it's hidden. What do you say?

[He says it without even looking at Kaito. Battler's voice sounds emotionless, hollow.
It wouldn't be much of a game if he showed his feelings on the matter, right?]

Why? Don't skimp on this answer. Don't twist the truth with technicalities. I wanna know why.

I'll pretend that wasn't your second question.

And you're... on the witch side. Or acting as someone on the witch side. [It wasn't a question; he didn't really need to ask at this point]

[Another statement]
Then... what is the mystery side, the human side, supposed to do?

No.
... what're you hoping to accomplish? If you kill your entire family with magic... what do you get?
It can't just be entertainment, can it?

I get a step closer to the answer I've been seeking since I appeared here. A closed room mystery I'll never give up on until I solve it.
Ever.

I need this answer to protect my Truth, yes.
So, game's over. I wonder... how much of the truth did you find in my answers?
