[ Niou spins his racket over his wrist as he saunters onto the court nearest Kenya, grinning. ]

[ Niou bounces the ball once more, and if it comes back to his hand a little faster than is normal, he doesn't show any recognition. And if it suddenly grew a face on the near side of the ball, out of Kenya's sight, and winked at him - well, he doesn't bat an eyelash.

Instead, he touches the head of his racket to the ground, his fingertips holding it upright. ]

[kenya doesn't notice the ball, really; his eyes are trained on the way the racket falls, as he leans to stretch out his legs. he's not the kind of person to plan ahead, and pretty much the only strategy he's bothered to think of is run fast, faster than he can follow you.

[ The racket lands smooth, which is just as well. It doesn't matter who serves, Niou thinks as he tosses the ball to Kenya, because the ball will make sure Kenya never scores a point.

And as for Kenya serving, the ball will behave perfectly. He hopes.

He backs toward the baseline, grinning. ]

[he catches the ball easily and notices its colour for the first time. odd, he thinks, but doesn't really dwell on it as he takes his position.]

[he throws the 'ball' and hits it quickly - a short serve]

[ Niou's return is easy, even with the ball behaving as a normal ball. It arcs lazily to Kenya's left, but after it hits the court, it suddenly bounces off to the right, high over his head.

Niou, for his part, stands innocently watching, apparently unconcerned about the ball coming back. ]

[kenya just stands there stunned for a moment, before going over to inspect the landing point for any imperfection that could have caused such a thing. finding nothing but kicking the ground just to make sure, he goes to pick up the ball.]

[he goes to pick up the ball- and serves it again, with a bit more force behind it than last time]

[ Again, the ball behaves perfectly on the serve, and Niou returns it, albeit with more effort than before.

This time, it heads innocuously for center court on the return, with no sign of foul play. As before, though, Niou stands just as innocuously on his side of the court, looking completely unconcerned with his next play. ]

[kenya's there in a flash to meet it with a rising shot, to avoid the situation the previous point had brought to light. he can tell there's something off, but play come first.]

[ Keep your eyes on that ball, Kenya.

It meets his racket, but rather than rebound off it, passes through it. Fast eyes might catch the ball separating around the strings and rejoining on the other side, where it resumes normal play, bouncing off the court as though nothing were strange at all. ]
