Halloween Festival

Sep 30, 2011 22:47

Shadows of a thousand years rise again unseen,
Voices whisper in the trees, "Tonight is Halloween!"

Welcome, residents of Johto, to the Halloween Festival!

As September blows away with the last of the August heat, breathy October dances in with promises of colorful leaves, crisp days, and a later gift of sweets, laughter, and lots of spook. To celebrate the passing of seasons and the upcoming holiday, the residents of Johto are setting up a grand festival in the following cities:

Violet, Azalea, Goldenrod, Ecruteak, and Olivine.
EDIT: Mahogany Town will also be participating.

A event enjoyable by everyone, the Halloween Festival will mainly be run by the NPC natives of Johto (such as Nurse Joy) and will involve a variety of events. Donations and volunteers are always appreciated and welcome, and always always a chance for bonding. Here are the details!
Halloween Costumes

What's a Halloween without little children, teenagers, and even adults running around as creatures they usually can't be? Will you be a sparkling vampire or a wrapped-up mummy? A pony maybe, or maybe a Pokémon. The choices are endless!

The Goldenrod Department Store will be selling an assortment of Halloween costumes throughout the month of October (October 1st through the 31st), delivering to customers outside of Goldenrod via Pidgey mail. Costumes for children will be 500 Pokédollars, and costumes for adults will be 750 Pokédollars.
Trick-Or-Treating

When you think Halloween, you think of little (or not-so-little) children in colorful costumes, ringing doorbells and asking for candy. The restaurants, cafés, Pokémon Centers and Marts and other shops of each participating city, as well as residential homes, will open their doors on the night of October 31st to greet the trick-or-treaters that roam the streets. Below is how you can participate:
• If you'd like to create your own treats (cookies, berry candies, etc.), please place a comment in the appropriate thread below.
• If you are, on Halloween night, working at any place in any of the participating cities, your boss might shove a bowl or cauldron of candy in your arms and tell you to deal with the children. Good luck!
Jack-O-Lantern Carving and Contest

Who doesn't like to show off a little of their artistic side? On October 31st, gathered at every participating town's Pokémon Mart wil be a mountain of pumpkins and pumpkin-carving tools waiting to be used. Will your creation be scary, cute? Would you make an articulate design or are you just a little clumsy with your hands? The tools are child-safe so hopefully we won't lose any fingers, but please do be careful!

The Pumpkin Carving Contest will be held at every participating city (mentioned above). All contestants will be given sweets as a participation prize, but there will be grand prizes given to a winner in each city. The prize basket at each city will include the following:
• One (1) Moon Stone
• One (1) TM containing Dark Pulse
• Two (2) Rare Candies

If you would like to participate, please sign up in the appropriate thread below. Winner names will be drawn at random from a hat.
Haunted House and Forest

Kimodameshi "Test of Courage" games are primarily a part of Japanese culture. Since a lot of the Johto region has elements of Japanese culture (see: Ecruteak), this event will be held during the Halloween Festival. Haunted houses will be set up in each participating city and will be run as follows:

• Ghost Type Pokémon:
These Pokémon are friendly but mischievous, volunteered by friendly residents of Johto to float around the houses to spook and startle the brave-hearted ones traveling into their midsts. Watch out for that corner--there might be a Gengar sneaking in the shadows.
• Booby traps:
Who said Pokémon are the only mischievous things? Set up throughout the houses are harmless but startling booby traps including motion-sensing mummy dolls, dry ice fog, and other Halloween-y set-ups. There might even be your friend hiding under that suspicious table...
• Spooky Decorations:
Cobweb, cobweb, a disturbingly real-looking model of a severed and bloody hand, and more cobwebs. Is that creepy thing just a curtain? Are you absolutely sure you aren't just about to get strangled to death by Sae Kurosawa?
• Lanterns to guide your way:
Now, we won't leave you completely on your own to find your way through the creepy place. Small lanterns will be set up along the paths to make sure you don't get yourself utterly lost in the abyss.

The entree fee to the haunted house is ten (10) Pokédollar per person. It's not a long trip through it, but it might take you just under ten minutes... or longer, if you get too scared and run yourself off the path.

Also, if you would like to help out in the construction of these houses during the month of October, your helping hand is greatly appreciated. Feel free to be the most useful carpenter in town, or you might be a little bit too clumsy for the job. Let's hope your thumb stays attacked, shall we?
Halloween Feast

What's a festival without a feast? Not a festival. The restaurants and cafés will have a feast set up in the center of each city, loaded with delicious, delicious autumn dishes and Halloween-themed snacks. A huge whole turkey and other meat, soups of various kinds, salads, mashed potatoes; Japanese-style chestnut rice, dango, mooncakes, and so much more. Desserts will include delicious cakes, pies, applesauce... the list goes on. But we are still looking for people who'll help out.

EDIT: Alcohol will be available for adults. The legal drinking age in Johto is eighteen (18)!

If you'd like to cook for the feast, please sign up in the appropriate thread below.
Bonfire, Smores, and Dancing

Not really into pumpkins, trick-or-treating, or haunted houses? Fear not! As the tables of feast-ly foods are set up around the city squares, a large bonfire will be set up in the middle of it to provide light, warmth, and aesthetic eyecandy. The flames will dance and flicker all night, and the usual city melody will be replaced by a cheerful festive tune to which you can dance to. For people seeking more sweets, a table will be set up carrying the ingredients for melty, chocolatey smores.
