Resurfacing

Scandal in Belgravia has been watched. I was planning to disappear from fandom until I had caught up on the entire season, but here I am with thoughts. And I've only watched it once, so while I'm sure everyone has dissected it to pieces by now, my thoughts will be vague and half-formed.

So many spoilers under the cut. )

I remember Sherlock staring out of a window, reading a text, and then the last two minutes are a blank.

Oh hell yes.

Something that might have helped (other than a halfway decently written female character) was more John Watson.

This too! It took me days to realize that the episode was leaving that hollow feeling in the pit of my stomach because in 9-10 months of in-universe time (from the Christmas party on), we never get to see John have a joyful moment. Just infinite variations on sad. (That face!)

Ah, so true. I think I would have been quite happy if the episode ended with John and naked!Sherlock laughing together in Buckingham palace. That was magical. But there was no joy at all in the second half, and I hated how John just faded into the background. His point of view -- both in the first season and the original canon -- is what makes the stories work.

I will never get tired of the infinite facial expressions of Martin Freeman. Even the sad ones. :(
