When did coffee stop being a rite of passage drink?

I have always thought drinking coffee, the strong and somewhat disgusting yet oddly enjoyable drink, meant you had begun or already transitioned from childhood to adulthood. But I guess that is not true anymore, as many kids are drinking coffee which for some reason I find so strange....

poetry, music, the world is changing and it disgusts me, life, books, coffee

It stopped being rite-of-passage when people started selling it with more cream and sugar in it than actual coffee.

Yeah, I agree. I like my coffee black without anything in it. I think if kids actually had to drink real coffee without anything then they'd hate it. I think Starbucks is to blame a bit for that, haha.

Yeah, going to have to agree with you on the coffee bit. I mean, each to their own if they really want to get in it, but wow, do people start with it earlier and earlier...

Seriously. There have been like 9 or 10 year olds I've seen in Starbucks getting something. It's so weird!

I don't blame them if it's cocoa. Because hot cocoa is a nice treat on a cold day. But honestly, those kids should be enjoying their younger childhood, taking advantage of the extra zzz's, and such. Save the coffee for when you're older and need it more. D:

Oh yeah I actually forgot Starbucks does sell things like that. Yeah, that's totally different, I could see why kids would like hot chocolate out.

You're right. Why do they even need it? They're totally energetic, I'd think coffee would make them a total nightmare for their parents, LOL. Coffee is like survival for me now that I'm older.

Haha...I guess I shouldn't be saying 'kids', really YOUNG kids instead because I too am 16 turning 17 this year and technically I'm not an adult yet, LOL. But still, it's OK if you don't, a lot of people our age don't like it actually ;)

Haha...I do feel much older. I've always felt older than I actually am for years. Not technically always a good thing but oh well. LOL that's OK! Thanks for thinking I am mature, that's a nice compliment :) But I really think you're not immature at all.
