I think its really a combination of things. The cast especially, I love almost every single one of them. The willingness to push boundaries (not just in content/connotations, but really how many shows would REALLY show the apocalypse). I think one of the things that made me like it so much, was the very thing that made it so controversial. I like that it was thoughtful and challenging, and forced you to examine things both in the plot and in life differently. It made it difficult to sell, but I think it made it incredibly worthwhile.

The cast & writing had a large part to do with the awesomeness of the show. I think the shorter seasons helped as well since the writers only had 12-13 episodes in which to tell their story. There wasn't a lot of room for the dreaded "filler" episodes that you see in a 20+ episode season. Every episode had to count for something. Even the first three episodes for as weak as they are, they didn't really waste time for the most part.

Well, I like this because it shows how much ME has evolved as a writing crew with the show being more diverse and outside their usual boundaries of showing the lives of the good guys. Buffy, Angel, Mal, they all stopped the apocolypse while in DH, they failed spectacularly and it was only after the thoughtpocolypse was in full swing and civilization was basically destroyed did they even manage a fraction of a triumph. In Dollhouse, most of the characters have blood on their hands or find themselves in thick moral quandaries. The writers wrote a lot of multifacted characters and all the characters had their own type of agency and weight to the plot. There were no filler episodes, even the procedural stuff added to the narrative, and the world building was tighter. I can't wait for the next ME production ( ... )

In the end, I love how they failed to save the world, and even at the very end, they only made a small gesture, because great, everyone still alive who was wiped is back, only they lost years of their lives and western civilization took a dozen steps back.

Because sometimes that happens. I adore how there are serious consequences to serious actions and this is one of the top five reasons why Dollhouse is awesome.

Exactly. The writers set it up and followed through with the bleakness without flinching. I know some people hate the show (having not seen most of it) and call it exploitation but it was just too realistic in some ways. Despite its premise, I thought this was one of ME more feminist works to date and it really shows you how much that creative team has grown. Can't wait for their next production.

This is the question I most dread because I can't put my reasons into words and putting them into words won't do justice. Dollhouse is great because of the combination of the cast, the crew and how they went forward with the characters and stories without any care in the world because that's what they wanted to do-- tell stories about Dollhouse.

Some people might rag on the show, but I love Dollhouse, warts and all. <3333333333

Haha, a lot of time, my love of dollhouse is best expressed in high-pitched fangirl noises, followed by "dollhouse is awesome, haters to the left."

I found Dollhouse at random, like many non-cable viewers in the UK thanks to ITV4 showing it (ITV4 is like, 24 out of 30 extra channels - not a lot of promo ( ... )

Don't be sorry, I'm all for long rambling posts.

I really liked the moral ambiguity in the show, and approcing increadbly dark themes in a way that i found throught proviking and kinda frightening.

I though a lot of the show was unconformable close to reality, the tech itself not that out of left field, and the way it was used is utterly believable. Evey time i see something about crazy neuroscience, I think, 'next their gonna be reprogramming people's minds and there goes the world.'
