In the second set, are all those trees dead? I bet you just feel sick about all that land getting burned, but pretty thankful you still have your home.
The trees are scorched, but the ones that don't collapse between now and the rainy season might make it, although they've been set back a few years and are already defoliating. On one hand they are adapted for fire, on the other they've been very stressed from drought recently. I certainly hope they make it.
It's difficult to imagine fires like this, and that the vegetation is too present year round that a fire is a real setback. It burns very rarely at home, but when it does, the plants spring right back and you can't tell the difference at all in 2-6 years.
