Why do I fall for cancelled shows?

Feb 25, 2006 17:57

It didn't used to bother me, but I am getting a bit fed up with missing the boat on fandoms. First there was Firefly that I arrived at really late, because I first saw it only when the DVD came out in the UK. But that was okay, because Firefly fandom was still up and going strong and there was news of the movie to come. Then there was Miracles, ( Read more... )

Sigh, I'm still missing Cupid and desperately wanting ABC to release the damn dvd. But I never connected with the fanfiction at the time that the show was out and now it's been so long that I couldn't begin to attempt to capture it.

Damn jeremy piven to hell.

but you've gotten to enjoy the shows and if the bunnies demand to be written, then by all means, indulge yourself. If you write it, they will come;P

And man, am I so glad I managed to avert from falling in love with Tru Calling the last season it was on despite the excellent few shows of it before it was cancelled.

*drums fingers as she waits for Fox to release the Inside from purgatory*

I don't know what Cupid is, I'm afraid - heh, still lagging about 2 years behind. :) Tru Calling I've only seen the once (the one with Sheppard from SGA in it) and I'm sure I'd like it well enough if I saw more, but I'm not head-over-heels with Eliza Dushku like everyone else seems to be, so I don't know if it'd be Fannish Love.

They need to start giving series more of a chance before they cancel. Building up a following takes time, right?

Yeah - damn, I hope so. I have enough of those bunnies. I keep getting more of 'em. My view is, 'cancellation? Feh! We've always got fic.' So long as, y'know, there is fic.

Far as Jake is concerned I would copy this show for everyone I know if they only wanted it on PAL long-play VHS. It might take me about a year, but I would!

I remember a bit about Jake but never got into it since it seemed a little too like The Invisible Man series but with actors that I didn't connect with as well. *shrugs* :)

Cupid was actually, umm, 8 years ago. Very funny hour long drama about a guy in a psych facility that believed he was Cupid, the greek god of love, exiled from Olympus because he'd done such a dreadful job of matching people in the modern age. The psycharitrist in teh series gets him released with the theory that contact w/ the modern world will break his delusion and she can write a book about it. Aired, about 15 episodes or so and was moved around to different nights almost eery week before being put in friday night death slot opposite of xfiles in its prime.

Sounds interesting. And yeah, I can see that being opposite x-files would kill something dead.

I really, really liked the Invisible Man, it was fantastic and hilarious, adn I've been rewatching it again just recently. But it didn't make me feel fannishly about it, for some reason. I've never felt a particular urge to fic it, except recently in crossover with Jake (isn't it the same creator? so fairly understandable that they seem to have things in common.) I think it was probably technically a better show than Jake, the actors have amazing chemistry and it's more streamlined and zappy a production. But nonetheless it's Jake that actually involves me emotionally *shrug*. I just love that super-powered geek. Can't really explain it. It's not like I can say I fancy the actor, given he looks exactly like my cousin and that weirds me out totally ( ... )

I feel your pain. For what it's worth, I try and look at it like this: even with a show cancelled after 13 episodes, I still get more hours of it than I get from a movie that has three sequels. There's more Jake 2.0 and Firefly than Indiana Jones. Cold comfort, but comfort nevertheless.

Yep - To be honest, I don't really get how so many movie fandoms generate so much from 90 minutes of screen time. Look at Once Upon A Time In Mexico fandom. Or possibly don't, because they're a bit nuts in there, but you know what I mean. ;)

13 episodes (or 16 in Jake's case) is actually a pretty good amount to work on, really!

And there's always fanfiction...

I don't supposed you've ever considered writing Jake fanfiction? I would totally read it. The fandom needs more actionfic. heh.

Actually, I haven't seen all of the epsiodes of Jake 2.0. Stateside, Jake 2.0 was on opposite Angel (in one of the stupidest programming decisions ever made), so I only saw about 1/2 the episodes. If there isn't some word on the DVD soon, I'll probably torrent it.

Sadly, I'm told there are problems with finding a torrent of it at the moment. Unless you already know someplace it can be found? ('cause if you do, I know someone who'd be interested to know.)

*hopes for proper DVDs SOON*
