[in a low, rough-sounding voice, the question not really directed at anyone in particular:]

So what excuse will you have for this? Poison in the water? Mass hallucination? Viral pandemic?

... I know no one is all right, but-- has everyone's wounds been treated, at least? These stitches itch.

How about 'we're crazy?' Never get to hear that one.

... You remember getting those stitches?

I thought they might want to vary their excuses so they don't wear so thin.

No. Actually, I... don't even know how I got back to my room, much less... well, at least it's not half-assed first aid.

Are you all right, Zack?

Why do that when the excuse covers near-everything.

... Yeah. And, yeah, I'm fine. You, too?

It just gets so boring after a while.

Mm. They stitched me up pretty well, so I should be fine.

And we woke up, and it was all a dream!

[a snort of irritation, immediately followed by an 'ow']

Dreams don't usually leave marks behind.

It's all so frustratingly soap opera, wouldn't you agree?

We'd be languishing in bed for weeks or healed in the blink of an eye if that were the case.

Physically.

... how are you holding up, Miles?

As I said. Uninjured.

Fine. Nothin' worse'n a few bruises and scratches, tha' sorta thin'.

Probably they'll say it didn't happen, same as Edelweiss.

Yerself?

Mm. I'll heal. Just a few cuts here and there.

[a pause]

Did you or Yuffie... did either of you see any... familiar faces, among the dead?

cowboy_newsie November 3 2009, 01:35:57 UTC
[hesitates]

I weren't-- I wasn't exactly lookin', ya know?

Did ya?

Good idea.

[similar hesitation]

Several people did, so it wasn't unusual.

It looks like I got a couple of stitches and I'm bandaged up.

The strange thing is... none of the dead seemed familiar to me.

You too? How do you feel?

... I'd call it fortunate, myself.

Tired. My leg's a little sore, but not bad enough to be on bedrest.

Remember how people were talking about seeing things in the mirror? I never did. I thought that people were just having some side effect of therapy... then last night happened.

Even so, don't strain yourself. Who knows if this kind of medical treatment will continue?

[a long pause] You... didn't? That's odd. Why would you be the only one unaffected?
