I like Ghita/Pearl.

I'm glad you approve of the change. :) The "naming" scene always felt so awkward and I know it will read much more smoothly with a name that has a direct meaning. (I'm also playing with how to make a symbol out of the pearl necklace that Cabrina wears and which allowing Ghita to explain her name to them.)

Any ideas for an alternate name?

I'm reading a Georgette Heyer mystery at the moment and about half the men have surnames beginning with H. As we rarely learn their first names I find myself skipping backwards and forwards trying to remember who they all are.

Good luck with your MFA application.

It's actually become one of my pet peeves since my playwrighting prof expounded on it.

I've pretty much decided on Evie -- and all my readers that I've asked agree with me, which is comforting.

So excited for the MFA, but so much to get done to get the application ready.

Just to throw in an unwanted suggestion, what about 'Ginette', which would be the French pet name for Genevieve?

Interesting suggestion. Thanks. As a name I like it very much and if she were a different type of character, I would use it.

Geneviève would absolutely refuse to answer to Ginette. The -ette ending is far too feminine (this is also why I hesitated as to whether she would put up with Evie over Eve), but also because though biologically she's 100% French, she hates acknowledging it and considers herself Austro-German like her "stepfather".
