I didn't hate Going Bovine, but I didn't really enjoy it. I felt like I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I hadn't kept being reminded that it was just a dream he was having while sick. I wanted to be able to suspend disbelief a bit more than that, I guess. I started Beauty Queens, and it felt like the same joke and like she had an agenda. But I should give it another chance, because that was another one read at an inopportune time.

Haven't read Shine or Chime, but want to. Re: hype:
LOVED Game of Thrones, more than I expected too, even though I loved the show. Just didn't expect to get into an adult fantasy.
Hunger Games: meh. Expected to love it, because I usually love distopias. I'm re-reading the Knife of Never Letting Go and like it SO much more.
Mortal Instruments: I love the books, can't stand Jace. I manage to ignore him and his whining and keep reading to get to more about Magnus Bane. :)
Libba Bray: Loved Great and Terrible Beauty and sequels, HATED Going Bovine with the passion of a thousand firey suns, loved Beauty Queens. Go figure.
