Soo agree on clothing. (Most of it being CRAP.) That's partly why I'm going secondhand-only this year: if it's gonna be crap anyway, I'm at least for frig sure not paying full price. -_-

3 weeks! Congrats, sweetie ^-^ That's wonderful <333

I wore only used clothing for many years. Hard to find as the local Salvation Army store closed so there is only a small GoodWill left.

But, good for you, it is a much more sustainable lifestyle.

I've seen really expensive clothing at our local Goodwill stores as well. Like you, I'm amazed at what junk it all is!
The earrings look really cute.

"Wonder if only people who know how to sew notice?"
Only someone who's had to learn how to fit a commercial pattern to their own measurements will notice.
I have well-developed Deltoid muscles right where the arm meets the shoulder. As a result, learning to alter the sleeves on commercial patterns so that they fit me properly was a nightmare.
Remember the Sewing with Nancy TV show? I got my first hint about how to alter a sewing pattern so that it fit by watching Nancy demonstrate her slide and pivot technique. Then I read somewhere that reducing the height of the sleeve cap would help.
I also found tips and tricks on sleeve fitting in weird places: Flamenco dresses have to have sleeves capable of a wide range of movement, Coco Chanel's ravings on sleeve fitting, and then this came up:

This particular video really kicked the light bulb on for me when it came to sleeve cutting.

You are so right about clothes! And yes, it was always hard to work with dark on dark. I only use my sewing machine for mending now, too. I used to make a few clothes back in the day, but it was never my forte.

Those earrings are beautiful! What a wonderful project!

Your book reading sounds great, too.

I always wanted to be a teacher, too. Never was, except for a stint at an independent school, where, I swear, the kids taught me more than I taught them!

Thanks on the earrings. It was fun. I haven't made any jewelry in a long time.

I did some substitute teaching. The kids were pretty rowdy, testing me out I think.

I think you have quite a flare for jewellery making!

Ah, the little darlings will do that. The ones I spent time with were nice kids.

Thanks. I had a jewelry shop on Etsy for a time.
