Summer is not my favorite season, especially a summer like we are experiencing now. The earth is cracked open in gaping wounds, the grass crunches underfoot and the air is almost too heavy to breathe.

Didn't know if I liked it, at first, reads as much like self-help as the biography it's supposed to be, and it's quite painful throughout, dealing as it does with her life in this hugely dysfunctional (a word she doesn't like) family, its suicides, drug and alcohol abuse, etc.
But in the end she comes across as a very centered and caring person and I've just walked out to the car to retrieve the book and possibly read it again because, as she points out, we all have different problems but we're the same in our struggling humanity and I somehow feel like I owe it to her to give her book, and myself, another shot at this...

Mariel's book intrigues me. I'll put it on my list.I used to be a fool for self help books. Am intrigued to see how the Hemingway genetics played out in his descendants. Like the title and its obvious connections, and after writing thid comment will no doubt be googling the subtitle.
Im still reading Papa Hemingway. Slow going because I keep rereading parts. Fascinated with his relationship with Dietrich. The energy that must have crackled between them must have been nearly visible. Yet, they made that wise decision not to become bed partners and thereby no doubt were able to preserve that more precious commodity, friendship.
