Prompt: "Is it just me, or does this seem odd to you, too?"
Universe: Future Unnamed Legacy
Word Count: 371
Notes: As with all ficlets in this universe, the characters' names and possibly genders are likely to change. Also, details - I don't know what day of the week this will be or anything like that.

"Is it just me, or does this seem odd to you, too?"

"What do you mean, Eve?"

She gestured at the remains of the birthday party - the burst balloons, the empty buffet, the demolished cakes. "Seth blew out his candles."

"Yes."

"But he didn't grow up."

Adam shrugged. "Maybe the cake glitched? Doesn't that happen sometimes?"

Eve shook her head as she began cleaning up the mess. "I've only heard of that happening to infants. And they usually just need a diaper change before it works again. Well, I guess it also happens if the cake isn't reachable. But that's why we tried three times. And the third time, there was nothing anywhere near the cake."

Adam looked around. She was right about the locations of the cake, and Seth definitely hadn't needed a bath, as he'd taken a shower immediately after returning from school. "Maybe we should try again tomorrow?"

Eve shrugged. "I don't know. I'd consider asking the Creator, but..."

"But she's not likely to answer."

"No. She hasn't answered in ages - I've never spoken to her personally myself."

"What do your parents think?"

Eve shook her head. "You know them."

"They ignored everything because they were occupied in their bedroom?"

"Pretty much. I'll ask Dad tomorrow morning, I guess. We have the carpool together. It's a good time to talk."

Adam nodded as he cleared the cake plates off the tables. "Good. I'll talk to your mother, or maybe your sister knows something."

Eve raised her eyebrows. "Are you sure you want to deal with Lillith?"

"Not really. But we need to know if there's anything else that could have gone wrong, and you know how she just knows things sometimes."

"Yeah. Well, good luck with that." She surveyed the room. All of the food garbage was gone, so they wouldn't get cockroaches. Everything else could be handled by the maid in the morning. "What do you say we emulate my parents?"

Adam grinned. "I thought you'd never ask."

As they headed upstairs, the problem of Seth's birthday party slipped from both of their minds.

It would return, however, when Seth didn't grow up yet again the next day.

Or, once again, the day after that.
