I have had a weekend. I started to get sick Friday morning, and by the time of Capture the Flag with Stuff I felt pretty wretched. After the preparations, Emily and I ran off to Skibo to get food, and were stopped dead by the sight of a rainbow. After we got back, Kat showed up, and it was good to see her again. There was actually a clarification in the rules regarding the properties of the ninja belt, specifically: "The Belt's magic does not work against a Wand of Vengeance or a Long Wand of the Law." So we did in fact make a bad call there. I thought you were there when that got discussed.

Oh, it was you.

FWIW, Alisa and I talked about it and neither of us would have ruled that way, Wand of Vengeance or no. A player should not be entitled to a refund of an item they gave away solely because they didn't remember that they were wearing a belt. The issue wasn't that someone didn't understand the rules, but that someone made a mistake not in their own favor. That happens, and people shouldn't come crying to the judges when it does: it interferes with the game too much if judges are running around tinkering with things absent a clear need.

(Think of it this way: you can't roll the game back. Things like jailbreaks, raids, and item usage keep happening while you resolve the dispute. For that reason, absent clear wrongdoing which creates a fairness issue, transferring an item from one side to the other brings no clear advantage to either side. It just stirs the pot.)

Oh, hmm, I hadn't thought of that. I was of the opinion that the wand giving away had never actually happened because Ed had not actually been captured. But you make a good argument that that line of reasoning is bad for the game in general.
