OMG Kasumi ramen... I must try this. I've bookmarked about a dozen different authentic recipes for ramen but I've never seen such an adorable recipe as *that* one. I recently purchased a pasta noodle maker from a Crate & Barrel store and now I see what people fuss about with a difference in taste between dried noodles and fresh ones (I kind of figured that dried noodles have come to a stage where cooking them will come to a point where it's not much different from fresh ones. Guess not. XD) I'm hoping that this saves some money in the long run since my home always has noodles. O___o
Now that I think about it, I don't think we played an actual board game, but we did play Lumps a couple of times (a dice game from a Santa stocking? I was bad at it) and Labyrinth, which was pretty fun. We played that twice in a row before we left for the evening.
I've always wanted to try making my own sushi, but the rice is certainly the most intimidating part! That and I suspect I might just end up eating the salmon straight. Hehe. Mm, sashimi.
I'm too intimidated to try real raw-fish sushi. I think the texture would bother me more than the rawness... But, yeah, the rice did take awhile. It was worth it though!
I was one of those picky eaters who wouldn't dream of touching something like sushi for a long time. I don't know what happened, but a switch flipped at some point and now I love it. Though it must be said, I didn't try the sashimi-style stuff for a while. I eased into I guess, hehe. Texture-wise, it's likely a mental expectation thing. I find the texture of it to be not much different than avocado. That said, my sushi tastes are on a relative scale fairly tame- I love salmon and tuna, and lots of variations, but I'm not big on some of the other types, like the all-roe ngiri. Overly fishy flavors turn me off.
One of my favorites recently has been salmon and mango. Yum!

I know, right? She made it feel approachable with the cuteness of the drawings, whereas before I was pretty intimidated by making ramen from scratch.
