Migraines.... are not fun

Aug 30, 2011 07:18

Normally when I get migraines, they start early, like I'm waking up feeling icky and then the pain will hit about an hour later, to say nothing of the nausea and the ensuing kowtowing before a certain porcelain fixture in the house. There's nothing good about my migraines ( Read more... )

random, health blah blah, tmi, irritations

Oh no! :( That's awful--I hope it's lessened a little now? I get migraines only rarely, but when I do...guh. They tend to come with these horribly weird auditory hallucinations. And there is definitely writhing.

Yeah, it's all gone now. They never last more than the day they appear in, thank goodness.

And mine are rare too - maybe every couple of months or so. But auditory hallucinations?? I've never heard of those. What is it like?

That's good! I have a friend who will have them for days...I can't imagine. *shudders*

A bit like tinnitus, really. Usually it starts with an incredibly hollow, muffled, sucking feeling in my ears, and then I get very sensitive to sounds. Then I'll hear high-pitched whining noises, that throb a bit until they sound like ringing or beeps, which seem so distinct that I've occasionally confused them with real noises, like the telephone ringing or my phone giving me text message alerts. It's...really strange, and can give me some vertigo too. Usually I can go to sleep and get rid of it all, mercifully...and it doesn't happen often. :-/

o__o I think I might honestly consider suicide if my migraines lasted days. Ugh.

I'm glad I don't have auditory or visual hallucinations with my migraines (my mom has tracers), but if it was a choice between those or nausea, I think I'd take the hallucinations. :/

Most of the time, I can use ibuprofen to keep my eyes open long enough to get home. At which point I go to bed at 530 at night and don't wake up til the alarm goes off - no medication has ever worked as well as curling up in my bed and sleeping for 14-20 hours. But then again, mine aren't frequent enough to warrant a prescrip so I don't imagine ibuprofen and dimming the lights and hydrating yourself would be terribly good advice :/

Well, seeing as the tylenol didn't work at all even though I took them in plenty of time, I have to admit I have doubts about my prescription too, but I guess I'll find out. :/

Normally, I'm not very light sensitive during my migraines, though I do tend to shut them off anyway as it can't be helping matters. And, yes, curling up and sleeping is usually the best cure, though last night I kept shifting, which would wake me up, and oh look, the nausea's back. Ugh.

All better today, though.

Yeah, the nausea is a new symptom for me. When I was younger I was blessedly free of that particular delight when I had them. Thankfully the tradeoff seems to be that I only get them really bad once every two months instead of every two weeks. It's a tradeoff I'm willing to accept.

YAY for being all better! Did you fill the scrip just in cases?

It's weird: I remember getting "sick headaches" as a kid, but not as often as now when I'm in my twenties. I have to wonder what changed...

Didn't drop it off yet. Tuesday afternoon/evening is generally a little busy for me. I'll probably drop it off tomorrow.

That sounds utterly miserable. :(

Yeah it is. :/

(I have to admit, that in one of my lucid moments when the pain was starting to recede, I thought of Kaidan's migraines. I have to wonder if 22nd century medicine can't do anything for him - I mean, is pain just unavoidable because of his amp or maybe he just needs to catch it before it's full blown or something.)
