What WOULD Jane Austen do?

Found this gem at the library the other day (needless to say, I did not add it to my "must read" list):

Guess #1: Nuclear Launch Codes

Guess #2: Taciturn yet firmly muscled men being difficult and the heroine seeking advice from Pride & Prejudice on how to get over him/get him to fall for her (both at the same time, really)...in the end, succeeding in seeing him shirtless and possibly pantsless.

Conclusion: I'd still read it. I'm a sucker for the taciturn romantic leads. And I'm not going to hit my 100 book goal unless I agree to take on some texts that aren't quite gems of the literary genre.

(Unless it's REALLY BAD. In which case...well, I tried?)

100 book goal? Within a year?? Dooood.

I consider myself an avid reader but I attempted a 50 book challenge two years in a row and only made it to 46 or so. I can't imagine 100. .___.

As for this book, maybe I'm too picky of a reader. Or maybe I like my Jane Austen experience unsullied. lol I mean, the title? COME ON.

I completed 64 out of a goal of 80 last year. I totally slacked. But I am convinced I can do better than that, so I set the bar higher. I'm currently at 35 and I'm halfway through the year, so I should have no excuse to not hit 70 and...we'll see about higher than that. My friend Mel reads, kid you not, 104 books/year. Or rather, she sets herself that goal and usually does it if not damn close. Of course we both pepper our reading lists with YA and stuff that didn't take us as long as full-length novels, but that's to be expected. I try to make 80% of my reading list new stuff that I haven't read.

This year, 34/35 of my books have been new. Last year 57/64 were new, so I am so far, succeeding :oD

Jane Austen is HIP right now - everyone wants a piece. It will die down. Nothing will ever be as good as her and some of the books are pretty terribly written, but because she's IN, they publish because they will sell.
