not really sick, just whiny

Rather than going to a church potluck dinner, I decided to avoid spreading my burgeoning cold tonight. Unfortunately that means I've eaten an apple, some crackers, and a handful of chocolate chips for dinner so far. I may add some string cheese to my unbalanced meal ( Read more... )

Too many snow days in the last three weeks has resulted in a veritable orgy of (reading, not writing) bad fanfic.

Ahahaha, bored minds think alike! Though for me it's not quite as bad as late last year when I got nostalgic over a show I watched when I was younger, until I discovered it was really the worst thing ever! Yay, perspective!

In other words, bad fanfic is all alike, whereas every good fanfic is good in its own way.

Feel better!
Nicely appropriated! (Though me and that Tolstoy quote haven't been introduced) There does seem to be an unfortunate amount of the same patterns, yes. :(

From Anna Karenina (the first line, apparently?): Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.

Meh to that! Though I think Tolstoy and I may both be overstating things. :)

As for the badfic, I should have known better. I've stumbled across these problems before when reading multi-chapter Kara/Lee fics. So now I'm back to reading those only when I know the author or when there's a good recommendation.
Related to this, reading some of the comments on K/L epics is a bad idea as well.

It's sad but true, isn't it. It's true for me with books in RL too. I guess I've grown jaded?

Bad book experiences lately? That's frustrating. I'm taking forever to finish the third Eragon book, and I do have a list of books to try after that...

At least in books you can't read other people's comments about how the author should hurry up and kill off the character they don't like. :((((
