more BSG "Maelstrom" stuff

I wasn't done writing about this episode, apparently. ( Leoben-centric burning questions for Maelstrom )

Good stuff, stuff that's been boggling my mind as well. The change in the way *Kara* seems to see Leoben is really fascinating to me--particularly in reference to the sex scene. If that was all in her head and Leoben didn't have any external influence on it, it's very revealing that he now has sexual connotations for her. I always kind of struggled with the idea of Kara actually *letting* herself become attracted to something she still genuinely seemed to think of as a machine. That no longer seems to be the case ( ... )

Well I feel very reassured now. That's some mighty fine fanwank you wrote in the second paragraph, heh. In fact, it was inspiring. Someday I'll have to stop stealing your stuff. Yup. I'm going to fanfic writer Hades Tartarus "the special hell."

I go back and forth about this. Mostly because it's hard not to be smitten with Leoben myself, so... Really, it's disturbing how big my fangirl crush is. Maybe my Han Solo crush can compare, but I was a LOT younger then.

Ditto on that second paragraph. I had to think on that awhile. Seriously, that's the kind of good thinking/writing the show needs.

"If she thinks it *is* her "job" (or destiny) to put the pieces together and achieve a goal (and the ultimate goal in my mind would of course be Earth)."

Great idea! She could beat them at their own game. That's so Kara. Giving into destiny but not. Hmm . . .

I'm so glad to find some Leoben folks out there. He's hard to figure but it sure is fun speculating!

I have had the same sort of thinking about Leoben and Not!leoben. Why the Dream!Leoben if we then have Not!Leoben. I think they are definitely trying to use the actors chemistry. So maybe it was really just gratuitous sex ;)

I do hope however like you that there is a connection between our leoben and Not!leoben. It would make the actions of not!leoben more meaningful to me.

I am certain we will see more Leoben!

on The "he's coming for you" I really wonder who the oracle meant! Leoben ( in a ship to save her? ) or not!leoben in her mind to guide her. I think it's the second which why I do think that there is a connection between the 2 representations of Leoben. Why pick him in the first place to be the guide. There has to be a connection, but I don't think we'll get a clear answer on that one until next season!

I think the paint!sex!Leoben was the same as Head!Leoben, mainly because even though he didn't have a verbal message for her, he was trying to pull her away from covering up the mandala painting... trying to show her that she couldn't keep hiding from it (and by extension, her destiny), and grounding her through the physical act of sex, something that's easier for her to understand and grasp ( ... )

That's a very interesting conclusion, one that I do see supported by that scene... he turns her away from the wall, he grabs her hands. And yeah, Kara's always been shown in a very sexual light, despite not being a traditional sex symbol. Makes sense, thanks.

I think that disconnect with her identity and role (and lack of understanding from those around her) pushes her to view Leoben not merely as a machine, but something "other" just like her. They've always had a connection, but now she can quasi-accept it. They're both misfits.Kara's connection to individual cylons (Athena, Leoben from F&B) shows just how capricious and emotionally ( ... )
