Rose was enjoying her coffee when her superphone began ringing, she answered without looking , "Hello?"
"Alright, what've you done now?"
"Mum?"
"Who else?" Rose could imagine Jackie frowning at her. "What? Have you gone and joined the Doctor again?"
"What? No! Why would you think that?"
"I've been gettin' all these gifts from you -- "
"And you immediately assume I did somethin' wrong? Can't a daughter give her own mum gifts?"
"I know you, an' while you're good at givin' gifts this is goin' a bit overboard -- so what have you done now?"
"Nothing!" She said, defensively. "Look, have you checked you're email yet?"
There was a sniff on the other life, "Me an' a computer, have you gone daft?"
"You know mum, you're the wife of one of the best innovators of technology in that world..."
"What of it? Far as I'm concerned computers are more trouble than they're worth! I'll not want anything to do with them, thank you very much!"
Rose sighed, "Well, okay, it's just that you know how I told Mickey Fandom isn't normal?"
There was a snort. "Rose, when have you ever done normal?"
"Point. I'm just sayin' some weeks ago, somethin' happened and turned me into a toddler." There was silence on the line. "Mum, please tell me I'm not as bad as that?"
"Oh my God!" Her mother exclaimed, "An' you're still alive?! Who took care of you?"
"I wasn't that bad!"
"Yeah? Then you had no urge to run around? Jump off cliffs? Blow things up?"
Silence.
"Thought so!" Jackie said sounding smug, "I'm glad to finally have a little appreciation."
"That's not a little! I'm sendin' you a *lot*!"
"Just sayin' you should keep it comin'."
Rose rolled her eyes, "Don't worry mum, there's more on the way."
"Good."
Then just as easy, just as fast, Jackie changed the subject going on news about her sister, Pete and the obnoxious society people. Rose settled on her chair and listened with a smile as Jackie went on to tell the latest gossip around the 'Upper' society then proceeded to interrogate Rose about this 'New Doctor who isn't your Doctor bloke' and the 'what's this I hear you're goin' out with some bloke?'
"I miss you, sweetheart," Jackie said.
"Miss you too, mum."
"I've gotta go now, Pete an' me are going to the opera," Jackie laughed, "Imagine that, me, goin' to the opera!" Then rang-off before Rose could say, 'Love you, mum.'
She looked at her superphone thoughtfully and sank back on the chair.
