holiday snaps from the holiday dragon

wardytron and I have been back from Zakynthos/Zante a week now. Sigh. The holiday was brilliant and fantastically relaxing and just what we both needed. It was deliciously hot and far away from all the gloomy things. I found us an all-inclusive late deal at a posh-ish hotel near a shallow, gentle bit of the coast. All-inclusiveness made it easier for us ( Read more... )

Looks lovely - I'm with you on the heat up to mid-30s I'm happy. All of my potential holiday mate types look at me sideways when I suggest Madrid would be lovely - lots of art and sun! Something about it getting hot in the middle of a desert.

I'll just drool over your photos a bit more here.

I'll go somewhere hot with you!

Oh, the heat is lovely. I am definitely living somewhere hotter when I retire, as the improvement in my joint flexibility is amazing in warm climates.

I want to go to Madrid and look at disturbing religious art. The combination of potential heat and lots of galleries doesn't seem to appeal to most people.

Heck, there are bars and booze as well!

Sounds good to me. I am defintely up for doing more of that sort of thing. We should organise a posse of boozy art-loving sun worshippers.

You do look like Aphrodite. :o)

Though I believe we all tend to find our countrymen embarrasing while abroad, I still have to give you that English tourists are particularly annoying ... and so are the Russians, Israeli, Indian, Chinese, etc. ;o)

The Danes abroad I hate the most, are the ones you find at pork feasts on the Canaries, wearing T-shirts saying "Save Water - Drink Beer" ... but then I rarely visit the Canaries.

Thanks for the account and the pictures.

Ah bless you. Alas the relentless rain and wind here have made me more look more Affro-ditey, really.

I lived in France for a year when I was at Uni and once made a formal apology on behalf of the entire nation to a lovely checkout assistant in a supermarket at Cherbourg. The Sun was giving away free ferry tickets and the booze cruisers were out in force. One drunk arsebasket, already bolloxed on duty free on the ferry, pissed up against the window outside the supermarket.

I think all nations display their worst characteristics en masse in foreign parts, though, as you say.

I love the Ionian islands. I didn't explore Zakynthos town when I was on Zante. I like your photos & words. I agree about the tanker beach. I love jumping off boats into the water! I went on a boat into the blue caves and it was lovely but they insisted on playing "banging" techno to "heighten" the experience. I agree re all-inclusive Brit-awfulness. I went to one of those in Turkey this year and piled my plate high with delicious salads every day while the Brits moaned about lack of chips. I think I might write about it soon, because this post is making me remember. I love Greece. I love the sea. Etc.

I'd love to be able to jump in the water. But it is not my element, and it gives me The Fear. Andrew was most amused by how scared I was, especially when he tried to give me a piggyfront into water deeper than me.

I don't chuck tampons in the sea, you daft bint. I mean when you flush a lav near the coast. I don't think it's as bad as it used to be, but sewage outfalls near the coast used to result in that sort of thing happening.
