walking or sitting when not lying down

I forget if I posted it to here before, but earlier this year I figured out how to walk. I figured it out while I was walking down the street in front of my apartment, analyzing how walking worked and sort of experimenting with different ways of walking. I discovered that if I bend my knees more walking was a lot easier on my legs. I think it is ( Read more... )

It was only one or two years ago when I figured out how to drink from a bottle properly.. I would always put my entire mouth around the opening on the bottle, which didn't allow air into the bottle as the liquid poured out, causing the liquid to glug, glug, glug into my mouth.

Now that you mention it, I noticed you used to do that. It makes a distinct popping noise when the mouth comes off of the bottle. I think my not walking correctly is why people say I have a funny gait. It is weird that you can be doing something very simple incorrectly for a long time and a) not know it and b) have nobody tell you.

I see a potential website with like common sense and common knowledge for the social outcast... =)

Although, it probably isn't limited to nerds..

have you noticed, those "Propel" water bottles have a design that forces you to put your entire mouth around them and make that god-awful sucking noise. Until someone shares the trick, I'll continue to unscrew the tops and chug them.

I am trying to figure out how to breathe. I tend to breathe infrequently and very shallowly, only pulling air into my upper chest. I am learning that I get more oxygen if I breathe all the way down into my abdomen then fill my mid- and upper chest. But it is difficult to do when not consciously thinking that I should breathe this way. Sometimes I catch myself having held my breath for nearly half a minute, and then I struggle to catch my breath again.

Funny how the things that nobody teaches us how to do from the beginning are those which most impact our well-being as human and spiritual creatures. People just assume that instinct tells us how to do all of this stuff properly from the get-go.

I hold my breath all the time too-- it is sort of funny because poker is a spiritual practice thing for me when I am playing properly. Breathing is incorporated into each decision which is grounding, I guess is the word you would use. For a long time I kept catching myself holding my breath in high pressure situations.. it was online so it doesn't matter, really, in terms of leaking information, however I found that as I got better at breathing normally I felt like I could make better decisions. There is an extra half a second of pause where snap-bad decisions are averted.

I estimated yesterday that I spend about 5% of my time actually breathing properly while playing. Interestingly, sitting upright in my chair has increased that from 5% to about 15%-- I am not sure if that is just to the newness of the posture or if the two or connected.

It only occured to me since college that the way I had been taking showers was backwards... I would always wash my body, then wash my hair, then put conditioner in and almost instantly rinse it out... At some point, it occured to me that in washing my hair last I was just washing all the dirt out of my hair and re-polluting my freshly cleaned body...

Now I take care of my hair first....

I never really thought of it that way-- I just sort of clean whatever part feels most dirty first. Your way is a good tweak.

Conditioner is meant to be left in for at least a few minutes, so that's another reason to do that first. I didn't learn this until high school; my sister's tip was to leave in a little conditioner after your shower. Funny how the only hygiene tip I've heard from a man is my dad asking if I wanted to learn how to shave.

you didn't say how one should move their arms while walking in public, or how their hands should be (fists, open, pockets), so even though you said you figured out how to walk, i'm not seeing the explanation. i was excited to be getting help on the subject. i'll try the thing with the knees anyway.

oh no, the arms. i never really thought about how the arms should go. i think if i think about my arms when i am walking it will totally screw me up.
