My new favorite cookbook? The booklet that came with my spankin new ice cream maker.

We've made simple chocolate (which was good, but you could taste the chocolate syrup), raspberry sorbet (also good, but a schosh too sweet), and we're currently ice-creaming the Rich Chocolate recipe.

Suggestions are welcome.

Omigawd, I'm totally going to buy that for Scott. He'll have a total spasm. He's the one who's really into ice cream, I'm just along for the ride.

Thanks!

hahahahaha...that's exactly the book I was looking for when you were here!

TBH I haven't made much out of it, since I really prefer frozen yogurt, but they're all easy recipes (no custards.)

How do you feel about frozen yogurt? I prefer it to ice cream, but admit that I'm weird. :) I have a great recipe I can dig up if you're interested ( ... )

That sounds like a much more reasonable quantity of sugar for a fruit sorbet. Could I do it with frozen blackberries? THey wqere sitting right next to the raspberries in the freezer at the grocery, and looked so tastey...

Yes, you can do it with just about any fruit you want. :-)

This is a basic recipe, and you can sub almost any fruit or fruit juice you want, as long as you adjust the sugar to taste. I've done it with strawberries, raspberries, grapefruit (used only the juice), and lemon.

Mmmm. Damnit, now I want sorbet.

Definitely! Blackberries tend to be more tart, so I'd make up extra simple syrup and add it to taste. Freezing will mute the flavors somewhat so you want it to be a little stronger than you'd like, but not super-sweet.

And hey, if you don't like it just let it melt, add more blackberry puree or more syrup, and freeze it again!
