So... I'm not as familiar with this sort of thing as I could be... I understand about the cat, but what about a dog? I know you can't have one anyway, but would it be the same issue?
:-(
I want a dog, but I know it's going to be years before I can really give one the time it needs. I understand...
Locally the same issue applies, in a different way. I wouldn't have a litterbox, but I would be responsible for disposing of my dogs, erm, excretia. Which means picking it up (with gloves, of course, but still) and throwing it away. Still risky for me.
On top of that, they tend to be louder and require a lot more time and training, to keep them from, as my landlord so delicately put it, shitting all over the floor. I love dogs, but I don't think that having one would be feasible even without the HIV issue, until I have my own place.
people think that because i'm allergic to cats, that means i don't like cats. so not true. my ex, mary, had two cats and oh i loved them! i almost missed the cats more than mary after we broke up because, after all, i was upset with her for not wanting to be with me, but i wasn't upset with them.
but the aftermath of that relationship is that i am on steroid inhalers, probably for the rest of my life. so no cat--ayana brought her dog, hannah, when she moved to illinois, but left her cat behind--a very hard thing to ask her to do.
i hope that you have much vicarious cat action in your life.
I know how much I've enjoyed your company, watching you spend time with Beta and Oblivion, hearing you call him "flea" and all of that. I can see in your heart how much love you have for my animals. And the best I can offer is you're welcome to come and hang out with them any time. Not that I mind your company or anything...:)

I was at Petco a couple of weeks back, buying kitty litter, and saw a most amazing catbox. It basically flushes after the cat uses it and has plastic washable pellets.
It's expensive, of course - it was $300. But I was purrsonally thinking about it for the girls.
