I had an interesting support group session tonight. In talking about life in general, I stumbled across some pretty big emotional stuff. And it's going to take me a while to figure out just what I think about it all.

I found this really interesting because my family was very similar. I distinctly remember as a teenager when one of my brothers was doing all sorts of crazy stuff (well, according to my parents) like possibly attempting suicide, staying out late, probably doing drugs, dating inappropriate women who already had several kids from previous liaisons. We were told first of all not to talk about it to our friends and there was no real discussion or confrontation about it. Later when he moved in with the inappropriate woman, I remember my mother telling me "I don't want you ever doing anything like this. And if you do, I don't want to know about it." I took her words to heart, having already worked out that my preferred family style - open and honest, sharing and communicative - was never going to happen.
