here 1/Layer 5: First of all, resize your cap and put it on the icon base. The idea for this icon was similar to
this one. I wanted a contrast between light and shadows to increase the dramatic effect of the cap. SO I need a clean background. I used a smudge tool, size 5, strength of 40% to make a more or less clean background. I didn't want a really clean one because there's a movement in the icon so a plain background would break it a bit (which would be a shame imo)
2/Layer 5 copy and layer 5 copy 2: I wanted to add some light to the whole picture so I duplicate the base and set it to screen. I set the opacity to 31% to not enlighten too much. Then I duplicate Layer 5 copy again to enlighten more.
I can't remember why I have those 2 screen layer set to 31% of opacity instead of one at 62%. It is probably because while doing the icon, I realized the result would be better with another screen layer and duplicate but I didn't the icon such a long time ago I can't remember. Sorry for that.
3/Layer 3: I wanted to add a light blub on her face. Open a new layer and with your paint brush, draw on her face and on her shoulder. Then go to the filter and blur a bit using the gaussian blur. Set the opacity to 52%.

4/Exposure 1: To make my light/darkness effect, I open an exposure layer and will increase the gamma correction.
Layer -> New Adjustement Layer -> Exposure
Gamma correction: 0.38
5/Brightness/contrast 1: As you see, we need light now! But we have to be careful to not make the icon too contrasted.
Layer -> New Adjustement Layer -> Brightness/Contrast
Brightness: +89
Contrast: -05
6/Layer 4: I wanted to add a texture that will make the eye follow her look. I used
this texture (by
nodazzle and set it to screen.
7/Layer 5 copy 3: I have an habit: after the use of a texture, I always duplicate the base and set the duplicate to soft light at the top of the layers. It is probably because I love contrasted icons. As I didn't want to lose the effect of the texture, I set the opacity to 33%.
8/Brightness/contrast 3: Just before working on the coloring, I use a brightness/contrast layer again. As we used a texture before, we'll have to work on the contrast a bit too.
Layer -> New Adjustement Layer -> Brightness/Contrast
Brightness: +12
Contrast: +33
9/Color balance 1: Now it is time for some colors. I don't like the coloring the icon has right now. To begin, I open a color balance layer.
Layer -> New Adjustement Layer -> Color balance
Midtones: -38, -31, -16
10/Channel Mixer 1: I'm not really stubborn when it comes to icon. This icon didn't want to turn her coloring with multiple colors and wanted to stay monochrome. Fine. But I don't like the yellow look. The best way I know to change the coloring of a monochrome icon is the channel mixer.
Layer -> New Adjustement Layer -> Channel Mixer
Blue: +7, +150, +200
11/Brightness/contrast 5: Now, you just need a bit of light to enhance the coloring and the texture:
Layer -> New Adjustement Layer -> Brightness/Contrast
Brightness: +26
Contrast: +11
I set the opacity to 67%.
12/Final: Merge everything and then
Filter -> Sharpen -> Sharpen
then
Edit -> Fade sharpen
