Shelke leaves Sydney an apple pie candle (because it smelled good!) conveniently wrapped in a towel so he doesn't scratch/break the glass.

(She wishes that the mind-reading ability Sydney has would work the other way around so it would've been easier to get something for Christmas. >:)

Sydney certainly knows about candles, but he's never experienced an apple pie before. They hadn't really developed a modern concept of pie crusts in his set of the dark ages, and cinnamon and cloves were more rare and precious than gold.

So he's as curious as a cat, intrigued by the scent and perplexed by the ongoing impulses to taste the wax, which intellectually he knows won't be very appetizing but the fragrance is so ...enticing.
