Maybe you don't think about Nevada much. I do, because I live here, and because I'm paid by the state. I'm an administrator at UNLV. My thoughts and concerns about Nevada are therefore very personal, and to some degree selfish

I concur. Chances are more likely than ever before for a move north, and slightly west. There are a few concerns though.

Since the majority of revenue comes from property taxes, I feel some small sense of social responsibility to not abandon ship and make bad matters worse for those who remain in Nevada.

I am currently about $30k-$50k underwater on my house. I've spent a long time recovering and rebuilding my credit, I'm not thrilled about the idea of doing a short sale, or absorbing the loss. I think it's unlikely that I could rent the house for the cost of the mortgage.

My lady is almost a doctor. She's due to complete her Phd in a few months or so. It makes little sense to abandon that so late in the game. Fortunately, once accomplished, her prospects on finding a job increase pretty substantially.

I don't know if I can get a job somewhere else.

You do tech shit for universities. That is always in demand when you are competent. Go where the lady gets a job, and they would *love* to hire you.

You'd be surprised how few positions there are. Frankly speaking, I do very little technical stuff anymore. I moved into management and have been an administrator for three nearly three years now. Over a technical department to be sure, but still. In some ways this is both better and worse. Still, you have a salient point, one that I'm cognizant of, and your suggestion features largely into my strategy.

I know it's just perverse schadenfruede, but I kind of love the idea of Vegas with no cops or prisons.
