Okay - here is some news. I think I am retiring the Opal modified layout I did. I won't be deleting it, but I am not going to be using it or modifying it anymore.
Wait! Don't panic! Instead ... I took the basic changes I made to that and started my own layout that removed pretty much all of the tables and instead uses divs and such.
You can check out the results in my layout right now. Important:
Layout Memories with an FAQ post and all other related posts.
Nifty Features:
- There are 4 areas. Each area has its own border. Set the size, type, and color for the body, header, main entry, and side areas.
- The side area can be set to the left of right. Just decide which one and there you go!
- You can have a background image *and* a header image. They are set up as two different settings now! *shock*
- You can choose to put the header image inside or outside of the main nav area.
- The dots from the original Opal code are gone. I want to make this layout about my code this time.
- You can add unlimited icons to the side with ALT text and links.
- You can add unlimited "Currents" to the side with ALT text and links.
- You can still have the Update link and your own customized text!
- You can still show or not show the journal subtitle.
- You can choose the order of the items in the sidebar.
- You can use HTML in the FreeText and IntroText boxes.
- You can set heights for your other boxes to make them scroll.
- You can make a "kill list" for users whose posts you don't want to see (in a comm for example).
- You can do tons of style customization with the CSS Overrides still.
And, yes, all these items are on the "easy" screen with some reorganized tabs. Whee!
Now, I just did this in about 2 hours so there are bound to be kinks and quirks. Please let me know if you try it out and find some.
Tips/Tricks
1. Borders: If you don't want one to show up, set its size to 0px.
2. When you set a header image, the navigation and journal name/titles move to the right side of the header area.
Okay, here is a recap of the instructions from last time. Please let me know if you try it, what you like, what you don't like, what works, and what doesn't! :D
You can subscribe/unsubscribe to the mailing list here. How to Link to the Layout
- Make sure on this page (http://livejournal.com/customize/) you are set to use the S2 system. I don't know if this is required, but it can't hurt to check.
- Go to the Your Styles page.
- Under "Create a Style," type a name and click on "Create."
- On the next page under "Layout," click "Other" in the dropdown box.
- A box will pop up next to that. Enter the layout id number, 1989970.
- Click the button. Go back to the list of "Your Styles" and click the "Use" button next to the one you just made.
- To customize it on the "easy" screen, go to http://www.livejournal.com/customize/ and click on the "Edit Customizations" button.
And I am hoping I fixed the bug with the text size thing too. ;)
ETA: Credit in userinfo for the layout would be cool, but not required. I like to know who is using it, where they found it, etc. #:| <-- Dorkme.
