Draco told him no letters; he had to survive on snippets of memories, moments in the Prefect’s bathroom or the Room of Requirement. On hot nights, with his hand down his shorts, he remembered their sweat-soaked bodies entwined in cool sheets or bathwater. He thought of the times Draco looked at him in a certain gentle way when he needed something to smile about. He spent the summer waiting and wanting.
And when they returned to Hogwarts, Draco was silent and distant and avoided his eyes, and Ron had never felt more apart from him.
