From Cervantes and Goya, to the barbaric practices such as the treatment of the Podencos, a breed of hound long established in the Canaries and throughout Spain, to bullfighting. Cruelty to animals is worst in eastern countries such as China. Spanish might be a little bit obsessed with suffering and death. I'm not sure that bullfighting is high on the scale of cruelty to animals. Factory farming is much much worse. St Francis is a saint known for love of animals. There might be others. There's a saints day in Spain where they take the animals into church for a blessing. Its San Anton.

Yes, eating dogs is considered fair game in S.E Asia but I am sure Hindus are revolted by our eating beef. Treatment of animals of course is the central issue. Catalunya is banning the corrida so nice one, Barcelona. We can get sentimental over pets but it is a far cry from what is happening to the poor Podencos.

Yes, I blogged on that a few months ago. Small world, as a girl I used to do security with (when she was a student Vet) is now in Chengdu.
