So you call yourself Jewish?

The concept of mamzer in Judaism is one that has not been addressed in the article on the main page, mischling translates as mixed, not as the more pejorative mongrel. The comments have all been deleted so anyone wishing to may do so here, sensible comments that is. One point I made was that genetics and DNA can now be used in this area. Markers ( Read more... )

I take it you're talking about that girl who was refused admission to a Jewish school because the Chief Rabbinate reckoned her mother hadn't been properly converted? I think a good analogy here would be the British Medical Association. Quite often they refuse to recognise (and therefore, don't allow to practice) doctors who received their qualifications in certain Eastern European and Arab medical schools.

Even Jews themselves don't know that the word Jew was invented around 550 BC during the Babylonian Exile.
Before this time they were called 'Children of Israel' - Israel being another name for their ancestor Jacob.

A little history:

Moses freed the CHILDREN OF ISRAEL from Egyptian slavery around 1400 BC.

in 722 BC, the Assyrians exterminated 10 of the 12 Tribes of the CHILDREN OF ISRAEL. Only Judah (Yehuda) & Benjamin survived.

in 587 BC the Babylonians razed Jerusalem & enslaved the last 2 tribes of THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL. All their scriptures were destroyed as well as the Temple.

Around 515 BC the survivors started calling themselves YEHUD or Jews and built the Second Temple & re-wrote the scripture from what they remembered.

So, really, the religion that Moses bought was about worshipping the 1 God. The majority of Jews today do not follow what Moses taught.
