Year 1 - Summer - Harris

So, Scout gave me her journal so I could write an account of our first summer in Lazy River.

I'm not very good at this kind of thing, I wish she'd given it to Milo, I'm sure he could have written waaaayyyyy more interesting stories than me, mind you they might not have been very accurate, he has been known to stretch the truth a little...  Anyway, me, Bridget and Milo have settled well into our little home.  Bridget loves spending all day outside tending to her crops.  She found lots of seeds up at the old farm, tomato, bean, strawberry, cucumber, pepper and aubergine.  She gave everyone some tomato seeds but didn't trust anyone else with the other seeds, apartly they need green fingers, and, well, her's are certainly green!  We also brought over an apple, an orange and a lemon tree, so we've had plenty of fresh food, unfortunately stoage is going to be a bit of an issue.  I guess we'll just have to figure that one out as we go along.

It has taken me and Milo longer to find our roles in the group.  My plan had been to help Bridget with the garden but she's so efficient at it she hasn't needed any of my help, although I'm a bit suspicious  that maybe she doesn't trust me with her precious veggies.  Milo is a bit of a slacker, he wants to spend all day playing games and messing around, but I think he has come to realise that he needs to find gainful employment or his time here may be limited.

For all his goofing around Milo has turned out to be a surprisingly good cook and taken over the role of preparing all our meals.  He has also taken on the maintenance of the house, though he's not that good at it, but he's been reading some DIY books so hopefully that will improve.

I had a run in with Quinn a couple of weeks ago, she was over visiting and just suddenly attacked me.  I don't know what her problem is, maybe she just doesn't like zoms.  Unfortunately for her I was in a pretty bad mood, I'd just come back from visiting Scout and she'd been acting funny, and made a comment about me giving her the best of our harvest, was she threatening me?

But anyway, I kicked Quinn's butt and she went running off to Bridget to tell tales.  But we Harris girls stand united.

Milo found all the fighting upsetting and found a counselling book, he thinks he's going to solve all our problems.  If he expects me to hug it out he's got another thing coming!

The next day we had a visit from Callan.  He was furious with me for fighting with Quinn, I tried to talk it over with him, Milo's lecturing must be paying off, and I suggested that if they spent more time building their own house and less time hanging round everyone else's and scrounging food, we might get on a bit better.  This did not go down well and, well... I kicked his butt too.  Did no one ever tell them zoms have superhuman strength?

So now summer is over and we're settling down into a rountine.  Bridget loves it here, she finds the night times tough, but she soons cheers up when the sun comes up. I don't know how she will cope with winter though.  Milo, what can I say, Milo is finding things tough, he just wants to be everyone's best friend and all this fighting is driving him crazy, it's a pity we don't have a psychiatrist with us.  And me, sigh, I'm still dreaming of a baby... maybe one day someone will love me enough to want to try and see if us zoms can reproduce.
