Why I miss AmberMush

AmberMush had a play concept that I wish more games employed. They called it the “Consent Rule” and it governed all play. That kind of RP works in text-based formats, but isn't practical in Live Action. With text-based it is very easy to indicate IC and OOC, to take your time and formulate your plan or dialogue, check your equipment, review the history of the thread, etc. In LARP things happen too fast, and too many variables are active at any given moment.

That said, I think AmberMush would have been fun and that if Mike got involved it would have been hella-fun.

I think it could work adapted to a live action format but it would take a lot of effort on thee part of the players involved. A lot of the negotiations can be couched in game and in character. You only need to slide OOC when you need to negotiate something that could be detrimental to the characters. Like relaying that you poisoned their drink.

Honestly I think the main reason that PVP is so rare at a game like Triumph is simply because you need to get a Dev to observe and they're usually busy facilitating people being heroic rather than underhanded. With consent, it falls to the players to resolve and trumps the need for a staff member with free time.

Ah well... it does make for a nice dream. I'd so like to feed a few people some poison.
