Fic In Translation: "I Will If You Try", the Bruce-Speak Version.

May 18, 2008 14:35

One of the things that I do when I'm writing a fic is try to pay attention to the undercurrents, the parallel conversation in the dialogue of the person whose POV I'm not writing. Sometimes I even get to the point where I insert those into the text so that I can follow both sides of the conversation. This is just scaffolding though and I remove it ( Read more... )

Aw. *snuggles Bruce* It's rather painful to know what he actually means. :( Don't you know you can be happy, Bruce? You don't have to second-guess?

Interesting exercise, altogether.

Bruce definitely shoots himself in the foot here by lashing out immediately and making assumptions. Although, given the situation, it can't be anything but messy. Because he's not really listening to what Clark's saying either, he's just going off on this emotional tangent.

And yes, it's kind of fun to experiment. *g*

seriously, if there was an alternate universe, where my AU me has never met SV clex, and would know DCU , i would be seriously in love with your bruce voice!
he is kind of absolutely fascinating!
its strange how much you want to make me hit him in the moments, where he made clark cry, and then hug him, where he himself needs comfort so much!

i enjoyed this immensly, even if i didnt got half about the context of what they were talking about.

but really, he need to see clark in absolutes is... the most unfair thing, and yet the most innate human feeling . its strange, we condemn others, when they dont live up the high podest that we have put them on, and we condemn them, if they live it up.
it gives me a familiar feeling, just like something lex would feel.
its like a game, with rules, where clark never be able to win, no matter what he does.

but i do have a curious question, since you probably read much more dcu:
are there even any threesome fics, with bruce, clark and lois ?

This got a little long, part 1 romanyg May 19 2008, 23:05:25 UTC
Thank you! The relationship that these two have in canon is...odd. They disagree, they fight, constantly in each other's business. But that's just it, they're constantly in each other's business. Old School canon has them as best friends, but modern continuity says that's not so. They each have their own cities and lives. Yet when it comes to the deep emotional stuff, they often turn to each other. And when it comes to lashing out, no one can hurt them like the other can (and they *both* do it). Seriously, sometimes Clark can be a bit vicious (rarely, true, but he can), and Bruce - who doesn't take shit from *anyone* - will just sit there and *take* it. And Bruce has made Clark *cry* (true!) and gone off to feel really, really bad about it. But if anyone else lays into one of them, you know, one of the other heroes, the other one's there with the defense ( ... )

It's just like Clark took the ring from the ex and gave it to the new guy. enderwiggin24 May 24 2008, 21:43:47 UTC

Aha! I actually have an icon from this story, with Bruce holding the box. *g* Actually, I was torn between this one and the icon, from the same story, where Clark does go rogue and Bruce shoots him with kryptonite, "About guns, no one has been able to make me do it. Not even the Joker. But I'll do it for you." Bruce *shoots* him and my heart just went pitter-pat, because he did it out of duty and love. Eek!

Yep, Clark and those billionaires. *g*

But Bruce doesn't like hugs! I just say that because the whole Bruce flinching away from hugs constantly, in canon, came up in my last post. *g*

Yes, this is a bit painful. But Bruce isn't asking what Clark's motives are any more than Clark is asking what Bruce's are. So we get a big mess and lots of assumptions on both sides.

Fantastic! I love finding out how writers layer their work, and this was definitely fun to see how the notes evolved into the final product. Although I had to laugh at the letter part.

Clark (Dearest Clark)

I have an image of Bruce erasing the words 'Dearest Clark', eyebrows furrowed, tongue sticking out of his mouth :D

Thank you. I don't always do this, sometimes I just sprint to the finish and then attempt to figure things out later.

Hee! Sometimes I think Bruce is such an over-the-top, closet romantic. And then he blinks in horror at himself. *g*
