I really love this, while, at the same time, it makes me SO INCREDIBLY SAD.
I assume you've talked to Night as much as I have about stories that are about "boys talking about their feelings"...this is very much a story where NO ONE is talking about their feelings. In fact, everyone is going very far out of their way to avoid talking about feelings that are, even so, still very much present and driving everything.
I think I very much identify (over identify?) with Reid here, because I've been in that position; in a relationship that wasn't 'good' and was probably/possibly not healthy, but was still better than anything else, and I think you capture all the conflicting cross-currents of it really well.
Reid's all caught up in his own emotions, his own feelings for Hotch - respect, need, want, love, friendship - and he doesn't know how to extricate the good from the bad, or how to have what he needs to work with him and what he *needs* alongside each other now that Hotch is moving back toward a "normal" life. And Hotch is King of Repression, but Reid saw him smile at Beth and look happy, which sort of killed him inside a little, because that means he's part of what's BAD for Hotch.
So Reid doesn't know if Hotch needs to own him still because he's afraid that letting go of Reid, in some strange way, means forgetting about Hayley or if he's part of his atonement for Hayley's death or if Hotch wants him just for him. Of course, he's wondered that all along.
I feel it only fair to warn you that this does not happen on the show. Heeee. It's a good show though! Lots of great cast interaction and serial killers!
She's nice enough, but I'm hoping she harbors some sort of dark secret if she's going to be around for a while. Or we won't see much of her at all now that it's established that Hotch is moving forward with his life.
I haven't seen every episode that she's been in. She seems nice enough but she is kind of bland - - in a generic non-Penelope kind of way. Yeah, I get that he's moving on (took him long enough once you consider that they were divorced) and it is strange to see him smile so much. But still - - she could have been anyone and I probably wouldn't have liked her - - because I'm so very bad with change. hee! I kind of hoped he would have ended up with JJ - until she went and got married.
I loved this a lot. I have a serious Hotch/Reid kink, and you hit every single button there. I know you've got a ton on your plate, but if you feel like writing more of them, I'd soak up every single word happily. ♥

In all honesty I'm not liking Beth that much. Probably because of poor Reid. hee.
