How is everyone's holidays going? I have so many cards that I still need to write and send out, but I have been tired and lazy. D: I am spending a lot of money on postage! I tried my hand at collage this year and made three different postcards. If you want one, just note me your address, and I'll send one to you since I have lots of extras! :D ( Read more... )

No it isn't! Risograph is a machine made by a company called Riso. It can print spot colour by exchanging different colour drums. Newer models can print two colours at the same time. It is different from photocopy in that it uses a soy based ink instead of toner and is apparently cheaper per page for printing large quantities. The bad point is that the ink needs drying time which is important if printing multiple colours. I wonder if it really ever completely dries- it sits on the paper kind of like newspaper ink- you know how your hands get kind of dirty after reading? It is kind of like the same thing.

The colour palette of Riso is limited but there is hot pink as you see and a bright orange and CMYK yellow. There is a possibility of ordering custom colour drums as well but I have yet to see anyone do that. I think it is good to use by itself in one colour printing or in conjunction with multiple colour screenprinting to save time of burning a screen and pulling 100 to 200 prints for the underlying basic colours.
