A/N: Unbetaed, sorry! This exists in my what if Wash had fallen for Kaylee instead of Zoe alternate universe. Trying to go light on the mush, let me know if it worked out.

“You ain’t doin’ it right. Ya gotta pull harder!” Kaylee exasperated.

“If I had a credit for every time a woman said that to me, I’d be retired and living in Paquin right about now.” Wash joked.

Kaylee didn’t seem to hear him as she bit her lower lip, busying her fingers to free him from the fancy handcuffs they had purposely on accident shackled to the companion’s bed post.

“Oh boy, Inara’s gonna have our heads she catches us in here!” The mechanic fretted anxiously, jiggling a small pin into the lock.

“Really?” Wash mused as he twisted his wrist to allow Kaylee more room to work. “‘Cause I don’t see her as the executioner type.”

“Don’t make light! This is serious business, Hoban Washburne.” Kaylee scolded as she sat back on his lap, slouching resignedly. “She hasn’t been here but a month and we’re gonna get ourselves disingratiated. Me and her could’ve become real good friends, too.”

Wash struggled to sit up, wanting to tuck that always fallen strand of hair behind Kaylee’s ear, but the cuffs gave him little leeway and he was forced to settle back onto the multitude of satin pillows drowning the bed.

“I don’t know,” The pilot began optimistically, wanting to cure his girl of her crestfallen expression. “Given the woman’s line of profession, I think she’d understand our situation.”

Kaylee raised her chin and Wash caught her hopeful green eyes with his bright blue ones. “You know, two people, very much in love, wanting to steal away for an almost harmless night of fun.” He professed richly. “How can anyone be mad at that? Besides, I’m sure between the two of us we can figure a way out of this mess before she gets back. What with your mechanical genius and my freakishly impressive dexterity.”

“You really mean it?”

“Yes. This one time I flew a ship with my toes.”

Kaylee smiled, thumping him affectionately. “No, not that, silly. That part where you said we were in love.”

“I know I am.” Wash confessed earnestly. “Knew it the day you got all tangled up in the wires under my flight console.”

The smile Kaylee gave Wash could power Serenity. “I guess being trapped here ain’t so bad.” She reasoned, her expression turning suggestive.

Holding up what looked like a large beaded necklace, Kaylee cocked her head curiously. “What do ya suppose these do?”
