Valentine's Day

The rose is red, the violet's blue
The honey's sweet, and so are you
Thou are my love and I am thine
I drew thee to my Valentine
The lot was cast and then I drew
And Fortune said it shou'd be you

-- Gammer Gurton's Garland (1784)

Ah, Valentine's Day! Or rather, Saint Valentine's Day but the holiday itself has come so far from a simple Saint's Feast, hasn't it? Today is the day to show your love, though the true romantic would beg to say that every day is a Valentine's Day. Nevertheless, even they would set out to up their normal affectionate game in celebration of showing the person to whom they've given their heart to, just how special they truly are. Candies, Chocolates, Jewelry, Flowers and Cards make up the usual fare, customized by the giver to say more about their feelings than could otherwise be said. Are you nervous about your gift? Is it the first Valentine's day for you and your beloved or just another special day in the many, many years together? Don't let the pressure of commercialized perfection get to you! As long as you give from the heart, Romantics, that's all which matters!

Cocoa-Choko

In Japan it's customary for women to give men chocolate on Feburary 14th in celebration of Valentine's day. A practice that's found from primary schools all the way up to executive businesses. The type of chocolate men receive depends the woman's relationship with them, so understandably the most common chocolate given is giri-choko which can be translated as "obligation chocolate". This is the type given to coworkers most typically! Tomo-choko is what's exchanged between friends and then there's...

Honmei-choko: chocolate reserved for your loved ones. They can be handmade or bought though who wouldn't be flattered to receive something someone took the time, love and dedication to craft with their own hands! Hopefully, it's tasty! And if not you'll bear through a few pieces anyway, right? For those boys who happen to be accepting such gifts.

Swallow your nerves and present your love in edible form! Or accept it graciously.

Valentine's Date (Gone Wrong?)

So have you planned for months for this night? Or did a sudden swell of inspiration move you to rent out a boat and take your significant other out upon that nearby lake? Are you settling into a plush chair at one of the city's swankiest restaurants, amidst the soft clinks and low murmurs of dozens of other couples enjoying a romantic dinner together? You could be more the laid-back, low-key sort and set out to make your own dinner for your man (or lady).

....but things just keep going wrong! A missed cab or a surprise meeting makes you late. The waiter trips and spills a whole plate oysters into your date's lap. You set the chicken on fire. You just forgot about Valentine's Day until the very morning of it! Your romantic lakeside boat tips over. You break a string on your guitar halfway through your original love-song. While riding the escalator up to that ballroom, her dress gets caught!

This event is all about life's unavoidable mishaps which get in the way of you just trying to do your best and how to make it right despite that. Use your imagination and let your character's quirks shine through.

...but if you just want to write the perfect evening. That's fine too. We certainly can't blame you for that!
