My Old. Let me tell you about it.

It's interesting how you realize you're getting older, eh? Lately, I've had a few niggling little injuries - one to my neck (which happened while I was carrying a 12 pack home from The Beer Store) and one to my hip. Nothing that you wouldn't get when you were younger, but, boy, it seems to take longer to get over them now than it did when I was 20 ( Read more... )

video games, memories

I totally understand. I still tell people to this day about my moment of triumph, when I beat the "Area 51" arcade game. Probably the only time I've actually one something.

My mother hated video games, so I never got to have my own console growing up. I think, in the long run, this might have improved my SAT score. ;-)

Hm.. my friend had the old Atari system. We used to play this really bad Hawaiian (or something tropical that involved a lot of turquoise, pink, and 16-bit palm trees) racing game together. I probably would say that I had more experience with the original Nintendo, with Mario and Duckhunt. Oh, how I loved Duckhunt.

Hahahahahah. Well, hey, if you're going to hurt yourself doing something, at least it was something fun. Plus, I'm sure the beer made you feel better, right?

I firmly believe that video games have made me a smarter person and nothing will convince me otherwise. :p

I spent more time with the NES, as well. Hmm, maybe I should make an entry about the saga that was The Legend of Zelda.

The beer helped, yes. Along with other things. ;)

I was never that into gaming. I got pretty good at Mortal Kombat on Sega and I liked Duck Hunt when I was little, but I always got really bored really quick when I kept on losing.

We could never afford an Atari, because we were pretty much broke when we moved to Alberta (around the time Atari was popular), so I would only get to play when we went to visit my cousins who lived three hours away. I got pretty good at a game I want to say was the early form of Dungeons and Dragons, but really it could have been any castle game. The first game I beat was Where in the World is Carmen San Diego? on an Apple 2e. And then Lode Runner on the Apple 2e, and then Castle Wolfenstein on--you guessed it!--the Apple 2e. My elementary school got a bunch of them and they inspired me to come to school early. In fact, I believe I developed my love of maps from that first game. Switching the floppy over every ten minutes for a new level just added to the suspense.

Oh, you're a fellow sufferer? God, that game was annoying, wasn't it? It's no wonder it was responsible for the Great VIdeo Game Crash of '83.

Always nice to have a new friend, especially since you're kinda responsible for this whole mess. :D
