In the beginning, there was only the Creator. And She created the world; its lands and seas, peoples and beasts. She created the Keeper, to rule over the dead. She gave the world to her people, whom She loved dearly, to do with what they would. The people multiplied, forming their cultures and societies, and were faithful to the Creator. And when there were many, the Creator made the Watchers: lesser deities to watch her people and report. You see, there are simply too many people for the Creator to keep track of, too many prayers to answer. The Watchers watch, and tell Her what her creations need

The only two ways I can figure this is "I play my character so IC that/but everyone leaves me to play with OOC versions," which is weird and doesn't really make sense in my head (unless the character is just unlikable in perfect interpretation and it's only with adjusting that other people like them?).
The other way is that they're so rigid to the source material they can't actually... develop the character / show growth or change when putting them in a game, because game development would cause the character to deviate from their canon source. This is the interpretation that's a harder stretch from the secret, but if true would make way more sense for why people would choose to play with a different version (because then, you know, character development).
But that's how humans are and always have been - applying human expressions to animals in order to "understand" them, hence, classic movies produced by Disney/Universal/other companies giving animals human expression.
Although I'll agree that the original picture gives off that slightly ":/" feeling of "KAWAII".
